Splutter/ missing @2000RPM

Just recently my car has developed a splutter or miss at 2000RPM. its worse when you hold it at that point while driving with very little load on the engine.

Whats more anoying is that 60 MPH in 5th is more or less 2000rpm so it gets anoying unless i drive in 4th or do 70 every where.

So far i have swaped coilpack and changed the plugs.

I have no air leaks.

Exhaust is as free as its ever going to get.

EGR is fully blanked and removed.

And my wireing is pritty good.

There is a couple of things that im not sure of.

The CTS could be at fault as it smells of petrol on startup now and again but not sure if that can cause that problem?

Also my fuel return on the rail is a bit loose i dont think its drawing in air but even with it cranked up with a spanner you can still turn the pipe??

Other than that im not sure what else could cause it??

If anyone has any suggestions ill be very gratefull :thumbup:

Hi m8 the return pipe feels loose on mine its got a slight wiggle so that might be normal. I had a slight leak on the feed pipe and stuck some JD Weld around it so maybe if your a bit worried you could do that same or you can use Epoxy resin i believe.

With it leaking did you notice a splutter or missing?

I think i will try and seal it up a bit better soon :thumbup:

I havent checked the lambda signals and going by the wideband it is a tad up and down but would this cause the symptoms im getting if there at fault?

What about the CTS?

Well after a helpfull conversation with mikes :thumbup: i went out and unpluged my front lambda and took it up the road for about 5miles and let i warm up.

It ran much better with the lambda unplugged. nice and smooth with no flat spots or misses.

looks like ill be needing a new one then :roll:

yeh worth trying however i would advise you do further tests on the voltage pulses first before fokring out £60

get an ngk m8 they is the best if you do go and get a new lambda

Ok mike ill get the meter on it tomorow i expect. Ill have a look and see whats hapening before i comit myself to a new one.

Right i tested the front lambda today and cold it sat around 1-2v and after a drive back from work it was flicking around between 0.28-0.86 v

So going by that it looks like its working properly dunno..

Noticed today my manifold is blowing slightly so some time this week ill have to have a close inspection.

Hi mate, did you get this sorted ? I have a very similar problem with my 2.2 auto Zafira. Around 2000 revs, cruising along at 60-ish, the car will suddenly decided to 'surge' slightly to 2200-ish revs, then back below 2K, then back up again. The similarity with yours is the speed at which this occurs and the fact that I'm only on a very light throttle at those revs / speed.

I'm wondering whether it could be the throttle positon sensor, or the throttle body itself, or something else. Anyone any ideas ?

I'd also be keen to hear how you get on, mine's missing on light throttle around 2000rpm too, sorts itself when given some throttle.
Recent new plugs, coil pack, cts, blanked egr. Recon injectors a couple of months ago.

my old 2.2 did this but it was not missing - just seemed a bit uneven and lumpy at around 2000 rpm

fueling seemed fine and it was in closed loop and pulsing fine with decent averages

tps and map readings were fine also as was cts

never got down to the bottom of it and swapped coil pack and plugs

difference between missing and just lumpy is similar - the actuator tests with opcom on the egr valve make this engine lumpy at idle

Sorry guys if i had an answer to it id tell all but im still not sure what it is.

And like every one im hard up so i cant throw any money at it ATM 🙁

I normaly find that if i leave problems like this alone and think about it for a while the answer will eventualy come to me but for now its on hold.

Its more lumpy than anything so im not sure its a missfire.

Im starting to think if it could be related to the B/S delete or the fact that i didn't change the big end bearings after the rebuild dunno..

I think if it was big ends it would knock or rattle and on inspection they were tip top.

I hear what you're saying, but mine's definately dropping a cylinder, by holding the throttle gently open I can keep it going like that until I put my foot down again. Got a new code today, 1137 post cat sensor low voltage or lean mixture. I've got a 200c cat and an 02 simulator soldered into that sensor, which is confusing things further. Smells rich not lean, so wonder if the post cat sensor is reading lean due to the simulator and hence the ecu is adjusting the mixture on a false reading. Not sure if this is even possible as I thought the post cat sensor was just for testing the cat efficiency....
