I would not advise going any larger than the z22se exhaust gasket size on a z22se 'lost foam' head.
Even the Saab 'sand cast' head has it's limits. It is not possible to open the Saab exhaust port to the size of the alfa exhaust gasket, so I left a 2mm gap all the way around - you can just make out where I scribed the alfa gasket size onto the head in the pics above.
a fair bits come out then! i won't be taking much out of mine and will only be going to the Z22SE gasket for now, i was looking at a thread the other day with a cross section of the exhaust ports and like you say theres not alot more that can come out, just thinking for furture reference if i manage to get a large bore manifold sorted.
on another note the alfas manifold must be mooosive! :o
