240BHP Dblias N/A tuned astra coupe

was talking to owner of the astra coupe from MPG at PVS show, 240BHP N/A is great but would you want to send that sort of money on Dblias bits?

ive got that inlet manifold, airbox and scoop (i bought them all 2nd hand, so paid fraction of what they should cost)
those bits dont give the power, its whats done under the engine cover that counts!

yeah, thats what i mean, the Dblias parts keep on goin, cams, verniers etc, etc, in excess off £3K plus on Dblias bits.

great stuff tho matey if you got it second hand!

That's Ian's coupe, very nice car, very fast. He's got a tuned Vectra VXR now too. I usually take my car to his place to get serviced, top bloke. :thumbup:

Dbilas inlet and exhaust manifolds pluss a flowmaster and cams wouldn't amount to 240bhp :think:

240 bhp with a 58mm tb and standard ecu, sorry just don't believe it :think:

it needs to be run at our rolling road day to see how it compares to the other cars on the day, then I might change my mind

the dbilas TURBO kit only produces 240bhp :silent:

and thats it as i wanted to know if he could get hold of exhaust manifolds but then it soon turned to him telling me how courtenays products arn't good (eg. there 2.4 manifold carn't be re-mapped by them etc.) and then i said serve the customer who was waiting so never found out the full list & torque as i lost interest after the £3K worth of inlet & exhaust manifold as my head soon became full of superchargers car.gif

I can't remember the exact spec but i know it's had a lot of work done to it other than the Dbilas stuff i.e. ported head & tb, forged pistons etc.

now a sales pitch I can believe :lol:

it's quite hard and expensive to get past 200bhp, let alone get 240 bhp with a standard ecu

I would love to be proved wrong....

hmm i am sure you get a map to go with with the inlet manifold ?

I don't think the standard ECU is such an obstruction to peak BHP.

In terms of fuelling, Courtenays obviously have the abilty to control the larger LET injectors perfectly well, as they're used on the S/C without issue.

I do agree though - that engine aint 240BHP. Not without some serious ££££ being spent.

It has been remapped. He apparently had to send the ECU off to DBilas to get it mapped because, at the time, no-one could do it over here. It's the actual DBilas map too, not just some generic one. I've got the DBilas inlet manifold but it hasn't got the DBilas map on it, although it has been remapped. I believe DBilas state you can only get the figures they boast with their map.

As far as i know it has had serious money spent on it. Obviously all the labour is free because Ian owns MPG and does all the work himself. I'd imagine he gets some sort of trade discount on a lot of the parts too dunno..

You're all missing the key point
It is not the 58 mm that will make this impossible, but the stock ECU... not by the fact it can't be remapped well enough (I believe the limited access they have would be enough), BUT the limited RPM and impossibility to raise it high enough will be the limitation.

exactly, after Peter ripped apart the standard ecu map it was obvious the mapping just isn't installed for high rpm :thumbdown:

my own standard ecu mapping with larger injectors was really a fudge (altering the map output), once I had the standalone ecu the difference was like night and day (even though the maximum power was similar), the whole rev range was smooth and factory fresh, before it had flat spots and ran like a Vtec with the power switching on at 6000rpm

So I stand by my claim that 240bhp on a standard ecu is currently impossible - I say currently because Peter's new software will allow bigger injectors and higher rpm... eventually :clap:
