Good progress tonight - stripped everything back, disconnected exhaust, drained coolant (or lack of - more like a bunch of water in there 🙁 ), wiring trays and off with the cam cover. Real shame this, the head looks in excellent condition, someone has kept up with the oil changes for sure.
Set to TDC (dont think this matters tho?), removed top guide rail and then pulled the tensioner.
Noticed that when someone put copper grease on the spark plugs, the cracked head has carried that around the cooling system. I've flushed the expansion bottle and radiator, head will be replaced so I'm thinking to run coolant on the rebuild and do a full coolant change after a week or so to remove any copper in the system
Throttle body will have a full clean on rebuild alongside everything else. I have every nut and bolt labelled in a compartment box and have listed the torque values of every nut and bolt for the rebuild - I'm ultra fussy when it comes to torque
Couple of questions please
- How much of an obstacle are the aircon pipes? The recommendation is to drain and detach aircon however I want to try and avoid this
- Does it matter what position the crank is for pulling the head off - not much visibility there with out pulling the engine mounts
- Does the engine mount need to be fully removed - if so, whats the best way/location to support the engine?
- I'm going to pull the head out with intake plenum and exhaust manifold attached and I can strip it down on the kitchen table - are there any recommendations to removing intake/exhaust with head attached?
Thanks in advance 🙂
