Laptop..unable to open anything?!!!

Kates lads just come through and had a message that he had a virus on his computer, this directed him to a site where the security software was $59 so he declined. Now whenever you try and open any application is just comes up with ayou do not have permission to access this applicationerror. We have no back up software, and as unable to access anything including system restore etc....weve come to a grinding halt and a pi$$ed off teenager.

Mandatory turn off and on again tried numerous times but no joy.....any ideas before we call the computer dude out - wholl charge me the earth as Im a computer numpty (unless it`s controlling weapon stores from a multi million pound aircraft) notsure.gif :wtf: 😃

Reboot the computer, and start it in safemode.

Download malwarebytes anti-malware and do a full scan while in safemode.

How do you start it in safe made Matt? Do you have to hold a function button down?

When the computer is starting up, keep pressing F8 repeatedly.

Cool....to be safe...it`s given me the option of Kieran (pi$$ed of kid) or administrator to log in as....does this matter which I choose???

Now trying a system restore...which is a start as it wouldn`t let you do anything before...this accessed from safe mode option.
Then if able to connect to the net, will try those downloads Matt......million thanks.

you'll have needed to go to safe mode with networking if you want to access the net iirc?

I've tried a System Restore before now whilst having problems with a virus and its just made the problem worse.

Thanks Mike, I handed it back to him last night after getting him back online, but that was 11.30 and I was off to bed, Kate said he didn't mention anything this morning which is a positive, no doubt mega whinging if he'd had further troubles.
It's very slow but he's had it for ages, so it's full of teenage shite no doubt!!!
To get it cleaned up properly would be my next suggestion but with iTunes and loads of other stuff he'll probably throw a wobbly due to having to upload stuff again, but will moan cuz it's slow - can't win!!!!!

laptop hard drive are not renound for being big

you start storing muzik/movies then it will slow down big time

suggest using an external drive for non essential files

as above, i have an external hard drive for my media/software files. means that computer runs a lot quicker plus if it crashes etc then i still have all the stuff that it's taken me a lifetime (seems like a lifetime!) to acquire!

OOOPPPS, now completely fooked!!!!
mid way through downloading Microsoft Security Essential he lost internet connection.
Now when it`s switched on it comes up with -

Start in safe mode - 3 options
& start in last know good place (sorry for explaination, not got his laptop up and running at the moment)

No matter which of these you choose it comes up wih the balck screen, Microsoft XP and the green loading bar underneath -

After about 30 seconds the screen flickers blue then resorts back to the Safe Mode options above.....it keep looping this endlessly now???????

Could he have deleted something which he`s not telling me?

How much (if salvageable) should I be looking at paying for a system restore if I take it in to our local PC repair chappie. ie a reload of the operating system.

i got sucked in by this scam...
had a message saying that i had a virus and it was eating away at my file, the computer went on lockdown, wouldnt do shit!
a message kept popping up saing i could download this software for $49 (£25 or so)
i kept ignoring it but the more i tried to do the more it just froze up, couldnt open the internet, control panel, nothing...
went through the link to purchase this software. paid with my cc, and bobs ur uncle it sorted it self in mins. happy days u say????
NOT. wank3rs took $100 off my card (£69).

i googled the name of the company and hell do u know it they are scammers, so many peoiple had the same issue, they put the virus on there and its only through buying the software will it remove it.

im sure if you know what ur doing then there is a way of removing it but people like me are just getting sucked in :oops:

Me personally, I'd just buy a Windows 7 disc and install it straight over the existing data and start from scratch.
