How much better is the vec B V6 v's the 2.2?

Hey,

Just wondering how much better is the V6 GSI is in the 1/4 mile compaired to the 2.2 sri? I hear they both run low 17's stock.....
I figure yea, the V6 has the bigger engine, but it weighs more too.....
What's there 0 - 60 times ?

What other things do the GSI have that make it quicker ?
Do they have the same suspension?

If both cars are bog standard then not a lot dunno..

thats a 2.5 v6 and a z22se

Yes suspension is the same apart from the springs as the V6 is a lot heavier against the z22se all aluminium engine. The GSi has different cams to an SRi. That's what makes the difference in power.

but how many V6's are running right lol

you know a Z22se vectra B saloon is the same weight as a 1.8 vectra hatchback

a few mods and the z22se would be the same as a V6 but far more superior concerning handling and acceleration plus the V6 runs off dated engine management where as the Z22se is a completely different kettle of fish

Sounds like the 2.2 is a bit of a potential contender to the V6 around a track then :twisted:

It's a shame the cams don't give more than 10 bhp or cost a little less, I'd be tempted to do the upgrade. 🙁

Yea, I was always told if it's got tits or wheels it's gonna cost ya lol :lol: .

Someone once said you have to chose which 2 out of these 3 you want:-

Fast, Cheap , Reliable

Oh how true......

I feel the 2.2 is fairly competative as it is, but an extra 20 bhp or so, would IMO, mean it's got the edge over alot of things.
Am I right or is that just my 'want' factor speaking?

I've already done :- P&P TB, K&N, Cold air feed + pipe mods, small amount of weight reduction, full service, removed the pre cat, EGR delete and guess I'm maybe at around 155/160 bhp....

when my sri150 was tweaked it used to easily beat a standard v6 sri, but then that was not really a fair battle :silent:

Get the exhaust sorted and you're laughing. 2.5 inch catback system, 2.5 inch custom downpipe including 200cpi cat. If your budget allows then the final piece of the jigsaw is the 4-1 Piper manifold.

The manifold is too much price wise.....

Is there much gain to be had from just the downpipe, catback and cat ? Is it worth the swap considering I'll be keeping the manifold? How much bhp ???

about £800 would get u a decent zaust system, manifold / downpipe / cat back

Ouch, even they're alot of dough :think: , although I'll look out for them when mine need replacing.

I wouldn't call £1k worth of exhaust 'not breaking the bank', shame there's not more budget stuff I can get....

Iv got a Remus centre £70ish wich is loads better than the original exhaust, pick up a good quality backbox even a second hand one off here. I'm happy, power gains arnt gonna change your life but you'll notice the difference.

If you can get the engine out then deleting the balencer shafts will give you aprox 10bhp.

It's just a 2 and 1/4 inch straight through pipe with no centre silencer, some of the larger bore exhausts can cause you to loose torque low down in the revs so unless your ragging the tits off her she won't give you as much poke. Unless your running cams and other big power mods, then you need the reduced back pressure.

Your welcome mate, like I said £70ish for a Remus, love mine, car sounds totally different, one thing though, when you fit it, it may sound a bit raspy, after a few weeks and some coke build up they sound nice and deep/rich. Just so it doesn't put you off.lol.
