Cone or Panel Filter

Hi guys. this is my first post. just got myself an astra SRI, quite happy with the difference from my 1.2 corsa i had before.

i was wondering what is the best bet for the air filter, i feel like i should start there with the modding. I would like the roar an induction kit gives, but want to keep it cold at the same time, my budget is pretty much the K&N panel for the airbox or the K&N 57i sorta area. also is there any way of putting a cone filter in the existing airbox

burt created a decent induction kit with heat soak deflectors [fancy word lol] or u can mod the existing air box to fit a cone filter in

Whos burt, is it hard to do, if it reletivly easy and doesnt take longer than maybe 2 hours i would consider doin it, does it still give the roar? also, im aware that this may be quite silly, but what are heat soak deflectors?

I would stick with the panel filter and drill your airbox and add extra cold feed pipes. You get the best of both worlds.

Im burt :wave: . This is what i made up: It looks and sounds good and its increased the airflow by a bit. Its an option or as said a K&N pannel filter will help and a couple of holes drilled in the box will make a nice noise and keep it looking standard.

i cant see much heat getting in there

a lot of people dont realise that where the Air intake sensor is located is basically defeating the object as it is close to the engine and the temps are completely out. i have used 2 or 3 sensors for comparison and they have all come up with the same results, once the engine has reached operating temps at idle the sensor reports the air temps to be around 30 - 40C even when ambient temps outside are below 10C

it is worth rewiring it and putting it further away from the engine imo, for example inside the metal enclosure

Thats not a bad idea. you meen put it in the box/enclosure so that its reading the true intake temprature? It would deffinatly be more acurate. What sort of effect would it have if it got a cooler reading? even if you had a normal air box you could drill a hole into the side of it and lengthen the wires a bit.

well colder air means more oxygen and better combustion, needs less fuel to ignite also

who knows whether the air intake sensor is showing a correct reading where it is positioned, personally cold air is being sucked in all the time so i cant see how it is in the high 30's, i thought it is more to do with the engine physically warming up the plastic sensor

if u look on the x20xev & x18xe engines then sensor is located nxt to the driver side strut away from the engine

Thats got me thinkin now i might have a play around with it and compare the results from me wideband at the weekend.

That might have somethin to do with why they run so ritch then dunno..
