as you all may have seen, due to a bit of a balls up while modifying the loom for a fast idle valve, i caused myself quite a few electrical issues,
being as ive made a few mods i though id post the reult in here as im happier with the setup ive made in the last two days than my origional setup,
this has also got me to finally tidy my loom up and remove nasty bits of ford that were cluttering up my engine bay.
my problems:- viewtopic.php?f=25&t=18931#p1169475
i solved this by hard wiring a jumper between the fuel relay trigger wire and the fuel pump side of the relay, it just means ive gotta shut the car down fully when park up or whatever as the pump runs whenever the ignition is on.
(from what ive found out this is quite a common problem with aftermarket ecu setups!!)
No 2 problem:-https://z22se.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=18911
this i solved as explained, however when i had my mishap the car was running like the timing was out so i had to test every wire in the loom as i knew my chain was good, my 'spark b' output gave back a bad signal, so examined the length of the wire which was all good.
notsure.gif so i opened up the db37 connector to the ecu and low and behold flash damage!!
resoldered the leg back on (the ecu had been previously insepected and given a clean bill of health by phil at extra efi)
still ran like a bag of shit,
my mrs had to have her car back so i had to book time off of work.
sat down re-searched lots and lots and came up with the gutted z22se gutted coil pack with z20net plunger thingys idea,
the moment i succesfully wired it in i ran a jump cable from block to battery (as i still had earthing issues at this time) and it started a little high revving but good and strong, clenched my trousers in my cheeks gave it a rev and it worked ive never been so relieved!
i then disconnected the ecu to prove my earthing problem, the starter wouldnt turn there were no voltage leaps at the block so i added an extra earth strap,
it runs better than ever.
anyone deciding to this it is recommended you use a ford edis DONT! the gm one once you look up/given the right info is a far better solution, the coils are as far away from the ecu/loom as you can get and creates a lot less noise/spikes in your mapping, i only found out my random 2k rev misfire was due to the ford coil pack after fitting the z22se one!
on the upside i was able to climb down from my 'if it aint broke dont fix it' attitude and my engine bay is now a million times tidier (especially now there isnt a crappy chunk of ford stuck to the side! 20.gif
loving having it back working!
