it rattled

well guys i had a rattle from my chain today,only when i 1st started it,its been changed in the past as i have got the cut outs in the tensioner...i change me oil every 1500k...wot do i do..think the best option is just do it.

how many miles has your car done and have you got any receipts to show its been changed before?

if you are unsure about it get it checked out at vauxhall. it will be cheaper to get it changed than to have it repaired.

Dont think it was the tappets m8,bein a mechanic u get to now the sound of things,was defo a chainy type rattle.i was parked on a bit of a gimp so may the oil just drained off it?...the cars done 120k nearly,so maybe i should do it just to be on the safe side...£100 quid for the kit and fit in work is much cheaper than a dead lump..

if you can fit it yourself then i'd get it done then you got peace of mind fora while to come, as you say don't want a knackered lump on your hands.

if i knew how i'd do mine aswell as mine is on 118k.

think i'll order it up 2moz,and the balance shaft chain to,,wonder if its in the tade club book yet?lol...saying that my boss will pay the vat anyway...

havnt heard of any after market parts for it yet...we done one bk last year in work,and we got gen vx bits...and usually if my boss can get aftermarket because there cheaper he will..and then charge top whack prices...

i'll have to have a chat with my dad as he works for a local motor factor see what he says, he gets me all my parts.

priced the chain up 2day..£93 retail..£86 trade.
Balance shaft chain £86 retail..£79 trade...
thought i'd mite as well do both while the covers are off...

not much of a saving for trade really but iguess it all helps. so when you doing it then mate?

according to autodata its a 5 hr job,so if i can get the bits i mite do it saturday after work,think my water pump is starting to leak aswell so mite do that at the same time.gotta speak nice to my mother and c if she with get the parts for me,coz cash is tight at the mo...

got the bits off vx today...worked out at £186+vat..that was for ..

Cam chain kit

Balance shaft chain kit..

Cam cover gaskets

And a tube of gasket sealer..

heres the new oil jet..

Hopefully will be doin saturday after work,priced up a water pump to..Nearly £100 with the vat..They have never stocked or sold one so they said to chk the gasket 1st...
will post step by step pics hopefully guys..

will do my best guys,if things go tits up i can use my mrs car anyhow...havin trouble sourcing a cam locking kit at the mo...i did make one last time we did one but cant remember if it worked...just rad good old haynes manual...dont need a locking kit if renewing the chain..its colour marked..
