for what is the bigger tank (i mean not the normel fill cap) in the separate s/c colling sythem?
i think:
_to see ive there is inought water in the system---you can also see it with the normel fill cap
_more water in the system, so the time is longer until the water gets hot, example a long hill up with wot--but after the hill the time is also longer to cool down the water by driving downhill

opion B, can used with the single or the dual pass endplate
in the pdf is written, that the hose back to the tank is 1/4". and also that the hose shell start at the top of the Heat Exchanger ( at this place is a reducer in the hose to .040"). i think this sytem to get the air outside is nearly the same at the normel watercooler for the motor in the vectra + astra g with z22se in the front.
