Coolcharger header tank questions

I was wondering if it was possible to mount the header tank in the front of a vx instead of in the boot? What problems would this cause?

the header tank must be higher than the inlet manifold, so it needs to be in the back of the car.

also the bottom (outlet) of the tank must feed the pump, so it should go.....

outlet of tank, inlet of pump, outlet of pump, inlet of laminova (bottom), outlet of laminova (top), inlet chargecooler, outlet chargecooler, inlet of tank

I've heard some variation of this connectivity. I would have done it as above but have read that the pump can heat the water slightly so it should go pump-rad-laminova-reservoir. Any thoughts? Always good to get other peoples points of view.

a good point, either way the reservoir must feed the pump

but to be honest the cold water will keep the pump cool too

I was going for that set-up too, but due to my dual pass endplate the hoses fit better the other way.
So:
Tank => pump => pre-rad => chargecooler middle in => chargecooler top + bottom out => Y-connector =>tank.

Will use a modded 1l alu waterbottle for this first, but still looking for a nice (and cheap) solution for my water tank. Suggestions?

I'm using a 1l oil catch tank for mine. The CS one is just too expensive for my liking. I'm also not convinced about going for a big volume system as this would leave it very succeptible to heat soak.

I saw some cheap (similar looking to all those alloy catch tanks) alloy power steering reservoirs on the net. Thes have a filler cap, but they still look rather heavy with those screwed on top and bottoms...

Yeah, thats what I have and it is heavy....but it was only 30 quid.

how do you adapt it to have 18mm inlet/outlet?

Then turned up some 19 mm hose fittings that I'll weld in. I've binned off the original level indicator as it leaked when I checked it. I've tapped in some compression fittings for a new level guage. I'll put a pic up when I've finished it

Well, what a ball ache this was! Original depth guage fittings leaked so I swapped them. My new compression fittings seal with an o-ring so the body was milled for a flat seat. Other holes were welded up, pipe fittings welded in and the top isnt water tight. It was removed, faced, stepped to a press fit and refitted with some hymolar for luck. Anyways, job done.

Whenever you want. Could you source the tank and hose fittings (PC water cooling)? I'd also get a 19mm hose coupler from derby performance hoses :thumbup: rather than the billet ones I made :thumbdown: . Just look a bit better.

Bah! Not happy with the fit of this one to the boot wall. Not sure if its just me but having worked in a body shop but I'm now REALLY anal about fitment. Gonna try another slightly smaller tank and mount it onto the side of the water tank mount. (have to drill my newly powder coated bracket, sob sob).
