what is the tuning potential of a naturally aspirated 2.2?

So far i have a vectra c intake, courtenay panel filter with de restricted air box, 2.5" bore straight through exhaust with irmscher back box (to be replaced with a less restrictive item) and i am soon to be removing the pre cat but i want to go further...

Any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks lads :thumbup:

drop the irmscher back box

they are tuv approved and restricted

you get loads of burbling and noise but thats it

piper zaust manifold and sportscat would be nxt job imo

manifold about 350

cut and weld sportscat around 180

hoffman sports cat 380

custom 2.5" downpipe and sports cat 320

I'm running a stage 7 na, so how deep are your pockets :lol:

200bhp is fairly easy to do, but it gets expensive to reach the mid 250's :silent:

Get rid of the straight thru' center pipe for a good 2.5 inch resonated cat back system.

i agree about the racing tubes

they are all noise and back pressure pops

i raced mine against a vec 2.2 with racing tube and he got upset saying his wheels were slipping even though he got tc 😛

ring up road runner in nottingham and ask for a cat back if u got a vectra b

Try for a Magnex if you go to Roadrunner. I have heard that Magnex had gone bust.

Vocky's stage 7 is all home build.

Have a look here for a basic guide on NA tuning, with a rough cost as well

stage 5 plus throttle bodies is a stage 6 dunno..

stage 6 plus balancer delete / high compression pistons / steel rods / stage 3 cams is a stage 7 :thumbup:

Just to create a stage 7 engine would be around £5k :o

Haven't you got stage 2 cams vocky ? So you "only" have a Stage 6.5 no ? 😃

(and I guess I have a stage 4.5 notsure.gif )

EDIT : in fact, just checked in your topic and you have stage 3 so very similar to the Schrick stuff... explains me a lot about how your power feels at the rev limit 😃

I went straight for the stage 3's after having Piper cam's before 8)

the CompCams stage 3 profiles are much 'fatter' than the schrick's, so better duration ?

Yes, a bit more duration, but less lift, leads to that potatoe like look 😃

nop, 11.6 vs 12.0 for the schrick ones
stage 3 are even more rpm oriented than the schrick stuff, but the schrick stuff will stress even more the valvetrain, which may not be a smart move for reliability 😉

Thats a lot of money for 200bhp IMO.

I am tempted by having a vxr engine and box fitted as its more "bang for your buck" and a lot easier to tune
