Z22YH Booked in for Remap

Well after months and months of hunting I have booked my vectra c z22yh in for a Remap on the 8th August........
It currently has K&N panel filter with airbox mod, Full 2.5" Twin catback system (magnex), Its just had a major service, new Pi suspension 45mm front 40mm rear and a hunters alignment. So thought its time to get it mapped.

After months of emails, calls and visits I shortlisted 2 companies that are able to remap the simtec 81.1 ecu on my z22yh and another guy from a vaux forum.

The guy from the forum remapped his own 2.2 direct auto and had a fantastic result with a performance panel filter and a catback exhaust, No figures as he hasnt RR'ed it. But feels alot smoother with a better power curve and low down torque.....But after a month he was having fuelling problems but this was sorted by removing the map and re-installing it. He is now getting around 30mpg around town ans still has a smile on his face.........Problem is he is up north and would charge £225 with lifetime warranty on the map etc etc but a drive away.

Second was Black codes in shrewsbury, They have never done a simtec 81.1 and had to read my ecu and send the info of to there head office to be looked at. After 2 weeks of waiting they called to say they can map it etc and to expect about a 15bhp gain from standard with the mods I currently have and about 8-10lb torque.......Cost was £325+vat

Last one is one recommended to me by a few people....Midland remaps. They seem to know about the simtec 81.1 ecu and was able to answer all my question etc without pause. He also said to expect around a 15 bhp over standard increase with 10lb torque increase....But he explained that the biggest gain will be the overall drivability of the car after regarding the power curve, low down torque and smoothing out the flat spots. So if I gain 8-15 bhp Thats a bonus as tbh just getting a better delivery with less flatspots would be nice lol........Currently have an offer on obd custom maps for £179

So I have chosen to go with midland remaps as they are local, seemed to know about the engine and of course for once the better priced. It also comes with a 14 day moneyback if not happy and of course a lifetime warranty on the map..........

I will updated on the 8th aug and try and get it on the rollers to see what I get.

I would be surprised with a 15bhp increase on a NA engine from a remap, but it may be at a mid point in the map rather than top end

would it not be best to wait until you have done some mods?

As above I have air box mod with a K&N filter and a full magnex twin stainless exhaust.....Not wanting to go OTT with it tbh, really looking for the better power delivery, smoother curve and getting rid of the flat spots. Plus tbh after looking around theres not much more I can do to the YH engine unless I spent thousands.......

Also yes I also think 15bhp is abit of a shot in the dark but that was an estimate due to having the exhaust and panel filter....So 15bhp from standard power output. He said it would of been around 8 without the mods....But any gain will be a benefit just want it to deliver the power better and smoother and maybe gain some mpg.

OK just recieved an email from MPG (midpoint garage) as I had asked them about a remap.......They have said that there are NO maps for this engine.
Does that mean the above 3 companies are BSing me......Is it safe to map the YH engine.......Not much info on it and ive only managed to speak to one guy who has his 2.2 dirct mapped and thats because he did it himself lol.

MPG know their stuff when it comes to Vauxhall. Have you tries Courtenay Sport as well?

They all have maps for the 2.2 se engine......But no info on the yh direct engine.
Ive heard it being done in europe and they have seen 165bhp from a map alone.....But nothing in the uk lol. MPG just said maybe they are confusing themselves with the se engine. But all 3 above said they can map the simtec 81.1 ecu from th yh engine. Ive had 2 companies come out and try and say no there map is for the z22se engine not the yh....

I just want to know if its safe to have it mapped, the 3 companies seem very confident with mapping then. 2 of them have had my car and checked they can read the ecu etc and have given me the thumbs up. I know they come with a so calle 'lifetime warranty on parts damaged due to the map' but how easy is it to proove the map can cause damage etc.

Have anyone on here actually heard or had a yh engine mapped?

EDS have a map for the Z22YH mate, I think 165 was the peak but its wasn't cheap that's for sure.

PS the guy who mapped his own car, is it Paul from morecambe?

Tbh, been there done that got the tshirt IMO stay clear of any tuners that offer cheap maps and that are not specialists in that make.

Heard many of a story of maps been done on cars the only thing that has been done is a car on a rollers and a couple of runs with a better second result.

Some don't even offer rr'd which would worry me further. Not that rr'd results can be fixed at all lol.

Save your money and go out for a weekend either that or talk to courtenay.

The gains from a non modded car are going to give you minimal results as well.

Yeah thats why I went to Ian at MPG as he does maps from EDS. His exact words were.....Sorry but NO map is available for this engine, I then explained about the 3 above companies and he said they are prob getting confused with the z22se engine as theres a map for that.
Ive sent an email to EDS and awaiting a reply, but MPG are sure there is no map for the yh engine.......

Just want to know if its safe to map it, MPG just avoided the question lol. All the companies above said its safe, but hey they will wont they haha.

I very much doubt there is many out there that can do the z22se either.

I would only listen to good tuners, I know Ian has done a fair few z22se's but as said unless you want to waste youre cash stay clear of cheap tuners and mapping companies.

I don't quite understand how people can let someone map their car with their "mobile" service? I'd be scared s**tless waiting for it to go wrong.

I still don't like the idea of home mapping using Dreamscience or similar

Im thinking I will prob cancel my remap, just not enough info on a remapped yh engine. I dont want to be the one that trys and regrets it tbh lol.

As said just have a weekend away lol.

Spoke to Tony Pilcher General Manager at 888 and they no longer modify road cars.......
Eds dont do a map for the YH engine no longer......
MPG said Nope........
Regal said they dont do a map......
Just Courtneys to try but nothing on there website or from internet search...

Not looking good tbh lol. Might be easier to sell up and go for the 2.0T or the 1.9 cdti haha. But spent so much time, money and effort on it and feel a remap would make the drive much better and more responsive.
