Vectra C Z22yh Chains - 72k Rattle

My friend asked me to listen to his 2006 facelift vectra C engine the other day, he said it rattled when cold and had a slight hesitation at 2000rpm.

Mileage was in the dreaded vectra C z22yh 72k range (like the z22se used to rattle at 42k)

He bought a pair of genuine chains and I fitted them for him, the balancer tensioner was seized solid and the guides were the worst I have ever seen and I've seen loads

The cam chain was also slack before I started and the guides were badly worn.

If it had been a few years older and the guides had gone brittle I am positive the chains would have failed and he would have needed a new engine :banghead:

So if you have a vectra C with 70k on the clock start listening for the dreaded death rattle (n)

to be honest every z22se is now at least ten years old and should have both chain kits replaced.

Vauxhall originally quoted ten years or 100,000 miles - which ever comes first
