The SRi 150 might have to go

Since the new pooch arrived it's dawned on us that the hatchback Vectra B mightn't be ideal..

So we're looking at Vectra C estates and would appreciate some input on which engine options to look for and, more importantly, which to avoid.

It won't be for a few months, we have to muster some cash, but we like to have a good ol' look around so we have a bit of a clue..

Opinions please fellow Z22SE'ers??

Having owned a 1.9 CDTI Vectra C, the car itself was great, but I just never felt confident in the clutch / flywheel / fuel rail (common issues with them all), and I get rid of it after 18 months of ownership.

The 1.9 seems similar to the Z22SE in that there's plenty of horror stories but some folk really rate it.. I can insure the Z20NET C estate cheaper than the 1.9 oil burner so that's moved off the list now..
Couple of the big diesels look interesting, although the 3.0 seems known for block problems if it's tuned even a little so maybe not that one.

ive owned mine for 4years this September, it had 76 thou on clock , its now got 120 thou ,in that time its had a dmf and clutch , a new arm that links the flaps in the inlet manifold , and 1 rear suspension arm on the rear , ive replaced the timing belt and waterpump twice ,only because I put gates belt kit and waterpump on her ,pump lasted 18000 thou then started leaking so ordered gm ones from autovaux ,its had its dpf removed , and remapped ,314mm front calipers and vented rears off 3.2 gsi ,I use her every day ,when I was looking the waterpump was the main fault ,so change belt and waterpump

Z22se in a vectra c
1.9cdti 120 or 150

But all have dual mass issues. ( mine does now)

Stay away from any with m32 gearbox. Some came with 6speed f40 n some 6speed m32.

Diesel 150s i would do a welded manifold to do away with the swirl flaps. Egr delete n find 1 with f40

Top of my C list at the min is the Z20NET if one is available when we're ready.

Looking at pre-08 as the budget will top out at £2.5k (might be £2k, we don't know for sure just yet).

There have been some murmurs about going off piste with BMW or Saab but I'm not so sure.

Not many about in estate guise but I think that's where I'd like to go (Z20NET Vec C estate)..
I'd like to try and keep the SRi too but I'm not sure if I can. It'd be a real shame to watch it rot on the drive.. perhaps I could stretch to a wee Corsa and chuck the 2.2 in that. Make a nice shopping car, something to pootle around town in.. perhaps..

Looks like the SRi might be staying and we might see about a Vec B GSi estate (preferably 2.6)..
Although, if a nice priced C 2.0 turbo comes up at the right time I'd be sorely tempted.
