Resolved TapaTalk Broken

If u ever need the older ones, give me a yell. I normally keep the last 3 in my xenForo add-on folder on my Mac.
I normally keep all my downloaded zips on my NAS, but for some reason, 1.7 of TapaTalk wasn't there. Managed to get a copy direct from TapaTalk by changing the file name in the download link ;)

@Matt if you get a chance, try it on Just Say Apple (you should be able to find it searching in the Tapatalk forum app). It's running 1.8 of the plugin on 1.2 on my site, and my iPhone seems to display everything correctly. I'm running a BETA of the Tapatalk IOS app tho' and not sure if it will work with the App Store version.
Weird thing is, on my Two Wheel Demons on it doesn't - not much difference between the two sites though.

Yeah, that is working fine on my iPhone via TapaTalk. Was yours an upgrade from a previous version to 1.8?

Downloaded the 1.8 from Tapatalks support site and then used Chris Deeming's install utility to update it to 1.8 from 1.7.
On my Two Wheel Demon site it doesn't display - but I have around 308 nodes/Categories for that site.

Hmm, I'll try adding it to my other site, but it might take a while for it to appear in the TapaTalk forum directory.

It gets even weirder. My normal iPad mini app (not Beta) reads my Two Wheel Demons site just fine. Guess I will install the normal iPhone tapatalk app from the App Store and try it now.

Just cleared the cache on the mini app and its no longer working so the add-on is fubar.

If you do look to upgrade it - I think it's going to be the alert feature that is broken in it. I found this in my error log for nginx.
Code:
2013/08/07 20:29:49 [error] 16101#0: *40866 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP message: XML-RPC: xmlrpc_server::execute: function get_alert_func registered as method handler does not return an xmlrpcresp object" while reading response header from upstream, client: 64.188.196.60, server: twowheeldemon.com, request: "POST /mobiquo/mobiquo.php HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "twowheeldemon.com"
Apparently phpBB plugin has had the same problem and the response was "don't worry about it - it was probably a network error".

My Just Say Apple site has
Code:

Needless to say - I'm going back to the 1.7 version of the plugin.

This is what was confusing me, because normally, TapaTalk throws loads of errors out into error_log, but I've hardly had any. Nothing in relation to the forums not displaying.

Code:

Thanks to the work of @Tracy Perry and one of the developers of TapaTalk, the issue has been identified, and the fix applied. We are now running on TapaTalk 1.8 and everything appears to be working as expected.

Just to give you all an idea of why I HATE TapaTalk so much. This is the error log for their app on our site from the last 5 days!

And they use XenForo for their own site, yet they can't release a bug free version for s**t!

Oh, and spammers can register through the app and bypass all the anti-spam measures in place!

I reported this as a bug on their support site, and it's been ignored.

https://support.tapatalk.com/threads/in-app-registration.19832/

If they don't sort their s**t out soon, I'm sorry, but I'm going to remove TapaTalk from the site, as I'm not risking the sites security using a 3rd party app which doesn't follow the standard core software methods. We have a VERY good responsive theme on the site, which allows more features and access than TapaTalk app anyway!

and just for good measure, they are now going to start showing you their own adverts inside the app :dead:

Dear Forum Owners,

We are excited to announce that Tapatalk is going to begin testing a free version of Tapatalk and in-app ads as a way to help you make money from mobile traffic.

Moving from a paid app to a free app

We recently started to offer the Tapatalk app for free for iOS devices. Since we began to test the free version, we are very happy to report a significant increase in downloads.

Testing ad formats

In the next few days, we will begin to test ad formats on Tapatalk. The ad formats will be integrated within topics, and there will be three formats; banner ads, app installs, and “Promoted Topics” (similar to Facebook’s Sponsored Stories).

During this initial phase, we will be testing technical integrations. The frequency of ads will be very low, and many of your users may never see an ad.

You can view screen shots of the ad formats in the Tapatalk Engagement and Monetization support forums.

After the test

We expect the test phase to run 30-90 days. At the end of test, we will have a good understanding of the performance of the various ad formats. We will also determine the revenue model, and we will retroactively share the ad revenue from the test period with you.

We are excited about helping you earn money from users accessing your forum through Tapatalk. Over the next few weeks, we will provide you updates on the test and will monitor and respond to feedback on the Tapatalk Engagement and Monetization support forum.

If you prefer that your Forum not participate in the pilot, please email me at [email protected]
