Slow 2.2

Can anyone help with a problem i am having with my 03 2.2 sxi
I have noticed that the top end accelaration is very flat and gutless.
It feels like a 1.2 corsa not a 2.2 vectra.

I fitted a K&N panel filter and new plugs[DENSO ITV 16] Which made it a lot
smoother by the way.
The car has only done 28.000 miles.

Ihave checked that the brakes all free and all is fine.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Welcome to the site mate,

have you checked that there is nothing blocking the air intake, does your car idle ok? At what point does it feel gutless, you said top end but what does that mean 5000-6000rpm or 100+ mph what..

BTW - didn't know vauxhall did a 2.2 SXI only a SRI IIRC

Daft as it may sound, you sure it's a 2.2? They only do 1.6 and 1.8 SXI's? Although, probably just a typo and you meant SRI.

it's a vectra not an astra.

if you look on autotrader they do a 2.2 sxi which i never knew notsure.gif

Re slow 2.2

Hello folks.
Its a Vectra 2.2 sxi 4dr.

Its when sitting at 50-60 mph and changing down to over take
it seems to pull ok but im sure there is some ooph missing
Also using shell optimax!

Thanks again.

It's my fault as i did read superbirdsxi thread properly just assumed that it was an Astra and not a Vectra

Back to Topic

All i know that there is a dip in the power band around 3000-3500rpm which could be causing it, it would be interesting to know what revs you are doing at 50-60mph and when you go to overtake.

Re slow 2.2

Hi.
took out the k&n and put the standard one back in
seems to pull a bit better.

I have allways put k&n filters in past cars with out much improvment.

hi,i suppose the only way to know for sure if everything is ok is to book it in to a garage or have a rolling road tune

Could try a good service, ie Oil (plus flush out), Plugs, clean the K&N, clean the inlet with carb cleaner. Other than that, might be something more indepth wrong, and would be a trip to the garage.

Re slow 2.2.

I have put the standard filter back in.
And it seems to be going a lot better now.!

I have had K&N filters on cars before and noticed the same results.

A bit overrated if you ask me!!

With your car being newish and only little miles you won't feel the power it has. It will be very smooth :D. The spedo will probably climb high but the car won't feel like it's going quick as it's soo smooth :)

you could try a try a pipercross or courteney/regal filter in it.
if you are not happy to have a standared filter in notsure.gif

if its a cone like the k&n 57i filter then chances are you car will be more sluggish. its strange as some cars love them ie. jap cars and most astras and vectras run rough on them from what i have read. the best mod you can do is fit a decent aftermarket panel filter and derestrict the airbox
