OE style EGR blank for inlet manifold

Found this on an 'S' reg 1.4 VW Polo

Its a thermostat housing blanking plug, its clipped into it in the same way as the EGR pipe is clipped into the inlet manifold on a z22se.

You can see where I had to file the plastic so I could get the clip in, its a tight fit.
I should have taken a picture of the end, its solid plastic and doesnt protrude into the inlet tract at all.

I did have a go with 2ps and 10ps but never did like how they fit notsure.gif
I swapped the sealing ring over from the egr pipe because its maybe 1mm thinner and fits better.

All good, hope this is of use to some of you cheers..

I dont, mine was from a broken engine, it still has coolant deposits on it lol
The temperature sender is right next to the blanking one on the vag engine, same shape too.

In the first picture I had already swapped the seals round, you only need the plastic bit from the vw and the seal from the EGR pipe really. the clip from the vag engine has longer legs on it, but its plastic, i chose to use the metal z22se one.

Its not going anywhere, its a perfect fit really, just needs a bit of a file for the clip to engage into.

Re: OE style '2p mod' EGR blank for inlet

fitted mine today and it took quite a bit of tweaking to get it to fit in right,

i filed down the opposite side to what sriste did on his to make sure i got a tight fit and fitted flush to the manifold whereas sriste's sits out slightly

i took a few mm off so i had to really give it some welly to get it to fit in snug and to get the clip working properly

u can also hear a high pitch noise when it leaks :)

I noticed a subtle difference in terms of it idling quieter and slightly more responsive, i do believe i had a slight air leak before concerning the fitment of the egr pipe

good find m8 !

Its good to hear someone else has tried it :)

Maybe mine fitted a bit easier because it had spent 10 years or so in a vw's cooling system lol

What do you get with it from the dealership, do you get the plastic clip and seal with it?

i went to local VW / audi parts shop and he supplied the blanking plug and seal, it was slightly different to yours as well, it was hollow inside

i need to get my obd2 reader hooked up to check the MAP and TB position to see if there is any difference

could tell me if there was a leak

had mine in for a while now, all works a treat, what about the hole in the head at the otherside where the pipe goes in? is there a blank?
I know it's not needed as it only goes to the EGR blank but it would make it look tidier

i just used the bottom of a tin can and cut into the shape of the bracket and just cut off the egr pipe

How do you get off this metal clip?
Does the throttle body need to be taken off first?
Pliers are always slipping...
Or do I need to pry it somehow with a srewdriver?

Okay, using needle-nose pliers was the key!
How may I blank off the egr-hole in the engine block? I want to keep the egr-pipe undamaged, so i can't take this attachment-block off the pipe. But without it the screws are too long to fit the engine cover mount. notsure.gif

Does the engine cover mount of never Z22SE engines (the ones without pre-cat and without egr-pipe) look different? If so, I may take one of those?
Other solutions? dunno..
