I know its not a 2.2 and only just a vauxhall but iv wanted a camper van for ages. so when this van came up with a f*&ked engine ideas started popping into my head.

Why not make your own.
i couldnt justify spending £1000's on a motorhome or have £1000's to spend anyway so this is now my base vehicle for operation dayvan.

i'v not got any pics of the engine replacement as this job just bored me lol i strugled to find a cheap vivaro engine so looked into other options and took the risk of fitting a laguna engine in turns out they are the same anyway despite my main renault deal tring to convince me they were'nt lol

sorry about the poor quality of the pics i think it was fairly dark in the workshop when i took this one. anyway i decided the next step would be to insulate the van. I first used a ali foiled covered bubble wrap for the base glued directly to the vans pannels.

after foiling the van from floor to ceiling I started the real insulating using a recycled plastic bottled based insulation (non irritant to skin and not harmfully if inhailed). as i was doing this i also started planning and fitting the wiring for my lights etc.

i Really wish i took more photos as i have been doing this but iv been enjoying it so much i just never found the time. as you can see this is bit further in the build as i have started ply lining.

next the roof insulating and wiring for lights its crazy the things you have to think about when doing this if you forget one thing it can put you back so much i nearly forgot to run wires for my rear speakers!

after it was all lined i decided this would be a good time to have the windows fitted before i carpeted the walls so no swalf from cutting out the windows would cause any problems.
the hole in the driverside windows cost me £36 each genuine (trade mate of mine found them on the dealer network) from vauxhall oh plus vat before you ask lol. the window seal kit cost about the same but done both sides . luckily a mate of mine is a glass fitter.

there has been so much go on inbetween these pics but i dont want to bore you all with all that info.

right the plan for the inside is:

currantly there is me my wife and my little girl but there maybe plans in the future of another little clark sometime in the future so i decided to make it a 4 birth!! just in case so the plan for this is to make a bunk bed at the back of the van this is a pic of the rear bunk bed wall fitted.

this is a picture of the van from the rear as you can see there is a gap at the bottom this is now a bit bigger about a foot high this is going to be for storage i can easily fit 4 plastic storage crates under the lower bunk bed and there is also a fair bit of room between the wall and the doors when they are shut so this will be where i store our outdoor camping chairs, table, wind break etc once i male some mounting brackets.

this is the shape i decided on making the bunk holes the bunk is 2 foot wide and the width of the van i made the bottom hole a mirror of the top as our rock and roll bed (seat that then folds down into bed) will be in front and this way when the bottom is not in use i can tuck my legs in and ill have an 8 foot long bed .

believe it or not that bunk took me ages to fit as i had to cut out loads of tenplates to get it to fit in tight as the roof and sides all curved and i had to cut out the wheel arch it was all cut outside the van but lucklily it fitted well only a ltlle sanding required.

carpet and bed slats cut and in place.
