High comp head and rebuild.

After a sh*t week of being off ill with tonsilitis i started feeling better so decided to kick on and rebuild my engine.

It's had my new polished and ported high compression head fitted, balancer shaft delete new piston rings and all other gaskets/ seals.

It wasn't a bad job, iv never changed rings before so hearing it on start up made me cringe a bit but its running good :)

Heres a few pics of the port work on the new head.

Pistons cleaned up with new rings,

And a different method of balancer shaft removal :wtf:

Desperate times and all that

Heres some more pics during the build,

Iv been planning this for a while now and im glad iv now completed it. its like most jobs it looks like just changing the head and deleting the shafts but theres alot more to it. That might be why it took me 3days

Still i took it for a good run today and it drives well so my hrd work has payed off. Still unsure about how long to give it before i boot it?

And also want to say a big thanks to ATOMX for parts help and insperation (y)

Nice work Burt. What's the estimated gain from a port and head polish on this engine? notsure.gif

Im not sure yet hopefully the rolling road day will shed some light on it.

Nice one Burt. Out of interest, what did you use to port the head?

Thanks. I used some carbide bits from snap on i think they were 50quid tho :wtf: brilliant tools tho and made life so much easyer.

You can buy similar bits for a bit less money and they are worth getting.

I did try using them with a die grinder but my compressor couldn't keep up.

Other than them i used a dremmel with the 13mm sanding drums and some 80grit flap wheels and a couple of small stainless wire brush bits for finishing.

them carbide bits are awesome but don't half remove metal so you have to be a little careful!!
some great work there though Burt well done!

wiring's easy chap, you just gotta break it all down into more digestable chunks! (mind you i did use to service cnc machines)
mechanical parts give me brown trousers!
most of the parts that were fitted were external so it just took research and plenty of time planning how to fit it all!
when my cam chain went i saddly took the engine out and left it on the drive where it got savagely ice damaged!
not that im not proud of what ive done mind!
and after reading all your exploits i can see some b207e cams in the future! (y)

well with all the brown trouser moment you made a good job of it.

Its like any job where cars are concerned we are constantly learning and having fun doing it.

Cams are definatly a mod coming soon, im just waiting on my redundancy payout and then it should be cams and a holliday :D

Wish i had the time and money to do something as drastic as porting the head.

Ive got so many plans but when it comes down to it i just cant afford it :(.

Very nice work though Burt hope it does you proud on RR Day.
