Have I dropped a bollock?

Such a simple thing. Just replaced my thermostat with a gen VX one. First off the rubber gasket that came with it didn't fit, it was too small and wouldn't seat right in the recess, so I used the old one, not good I know but the old one looked perfect as sat perfect in the recess.

Problem is the temp is still not hitting the same spot, it uses to sit at just over 90 summer or winter, now it wont get over 83-85. My first thought was the CTS, but then it hit me, I think I fitted the gasket first the the thermostat on top. Could this be the problem, is the stat just floating around in the housing now so in affect constantly open as it also takes an age to hit 85?

Cheers

What a div........... That explains why the rubber was to small as well, it needs to be stretched over the stat. I just refitted it how I found it, as in the gasket separate to the stat. Oh well thats another mess i've got myself into LOL, good job I kept the new gasket.

Cheers mate,
