Hey everyone,
I've been doing a lot of research and speaking to different people about the Gen 2 and 3 blocks. Just seeing if anyone else has anymore information then what I already know.
From my understanding they made a stronger version of the gen 2 block almost like a gen 2.5 the LE9, the LAF, LEA and LUK versions. This model block is the later ecotec 2.4 engines from 2013 onwards i think. Then there is a 2.0 litre A20NHT from the insignias and the A20NFT from the Astra turbos. On the internet the A20NHT, A20NFT and the LE9 engines are all Gen 2 blocks. From what people have said is that the A20NFT is a Gen 3 and has a stronger block then the A20NHT/LE9 engines. Anyone know where there is evidence to say this is true?
Another question is speaking to a friend he said that the A20NFT has some special coating on the bores so it's not wise to fit oversized pistions. Can anyone confirm this?
Basically the reason I'm asking the questions is that I have a A20NFT gen 3 block and not sure if I still should look to buy the 2.4 ecotec LE9 block. I'm looking to find out what the strongest block is and if the LE9 blocks are the same as the A20NFT then it makes sense to go with the 2.4 engine for more power.
Thanks for any help
