Do I need a new engine?

Driving home last night in My 03 Vectra 2.2 16v sri everything was fine then from no-where I got a loss of power and it sounded like the engine was misfiring and felt like it was going to cut out, the engine management warning light hasn't come on.
I managed to get the car home and this morning I heard the other half start the car and it still sounds like its misfiring (like the sound a subaru makes) when she revved it, she soon took the key out and jumped out of the car. I went out side and started it up the problem is still there and the other half said there was blue smoke coming out of the exhaust and now also I can hear a rattle (sounds like shaking a metal can with a load of screws in it). Has anyone got any ideas what My problem could be please, all help is greatly appreciated thank's

Afternoon, my initial advice is don't start or rev your car again, it really sounds like the timing chain may have stretched and slipped you may be really lucky and not damaged too much.

Has the car been using much oil and how often have you done oil and filter changes?

Whats the current mileage on the car?

122000 I've had it 4 months it came with full service history up to 103000 with service book,

Oil and filter where changed when i got it and I have noticed the oil level going down so keep topping up

So its probably still on original chains unless its been done and maybe in the paperwork, Hopefully you can get it toed to a reputable place or a someone on here to check.

just checked the service history book and from what i can see they haven't been done which is puzzling as the last stamp is at 103000 and I was under the impression they got done before that. Having spent most of the morning worrying and scratching My head whilst reading I know I've done wrong already by crawling it back home when I now know I should of left it where it was and towed it back today, it's parked on the road but i will be pushing it up the drive. Is there a straight forward way for Me to check the chain Myself?

not had time today as the kids had me out and about with them, I loosened everything off and took the spark plugs out last night so will lift the cover off 1st thing in the morning and take a look and put pictures on here. I did notice that one spark plug is covered in oil the one far right as you look at the engine from front of the car (one nearest the egr valve) but I couldn't see any oil when i looked down where the spark plug goes.

I've took the top off this morning and took about 30 pictures step by step taking it apart all from different angles (to help Me remember where all the electrical connections go and such). Now I'm bamboozled as I haven't really got a clue what I'm looking for. Thank's for the advice up to now guy's, all advice is greatly appreciated.

Assume that no camshaft followers have come out and floating around the top of the cylinder head.

Maybe remove the top chain guide (two bolts) between the sprockets and check the chain.

When you rotated the crankshaft to TDC did you feel any resistance or hear any noises ? (e.g. valves touching pistons)

Any further progress on this ?

my neighbour checked the chain for me this morning and he reckons the chain is ok, started her up and it's only firing on 3 he said. when i took spark plugs out there was oil just on the end of spark plug number 4 so going to put a fresh set of plugs in tomorrow and see if that cures the misfire
