Just swapped the engine on a 2001 Astra SRI 2.2 (chain driven) but the car refuses to start
the Code reader tells me B3056 B3057 .... could I have been over-zelous with the reader and deleted something ...?
I've punched in the Car immobilizer code, VIN and key code but then tells me there is none ...
I've heard the chip cannot be re-coded - is this true ..? do I need a new chip ..?

if you simply swapped the engine you should have re-used the original ECU, thus no coding required.

However it seems that the immobiliser system has detected an error, so it needs to be re-coded.

swapping the engine dont change anything but if you used a loom/ecu from a different car then that could be the issue

if you have the car pass code for the ecu you can remove keys then add new/old keys to the system with op-com you can even reset the ecu which will put it into a new uncoded state but then you have to add the keys and make sure its all working
