The aux belt on my Astra has shredded & I plan to replace it tomorrow, I have slightly more than basic mechanical skills but want to quickly look at a fitting guide to give me a better idea for when I start the job, also advice from anyone that's done one before would be good, obviously I will have to drop the drivers side engine mount & remove a few plastic covers out of the way but any more advice would be great

tools required
1 x 3/8 drive ratchet
1 x t25 screwdriver
1 x flat bladed screwdriver
1 x t30 socket ?s?

parts required
1 x drive belt
1 x tea or coffee with or without sugar and with or without milk :)

how to
remove air box pipe clip with screwdriver
remove air box lid with the t25 screwdriver and then the air filter
remover air box base by unscrewing the rear mount with the t30 then lifting the rear and sliding backwards
you should now just see the tensioner under the engine mount it has a 3/8 hole in for relieving the tension on the belt so it can be removed
slot the rachet into the tensioner and lift up then slide the belt off watch your fingers as the tensioner goes down without the belt on
remove the belt from the other pulleys and fit the new belt on the crank and a/c hook it under the tensioner leaving the slack at the top
lift the tensioner with the rachet and slip the belt on to the alternator
maker sure the new belt is inline and in the right locations
refit airbox bottom air filter and lid and pipe work
job done
drink tea / coffee :)

Got it all sorted, new belt cost £10 & took about an hour all in to sort, had to remove the drivers side engine mount & jack the engine up slightly as the 3/8 ratchet woudnt fit between the tensioner & chassis leg

I've also added Carl's instructions into a resource, and merged the discussion threads together.
