Any advice or help much appreciated

Hello All,

i'm a pensioner and partially disabled - i need the car to get around
2004 astra club 1.6 16v automatic car -
it is a good car - The car has only done just over 44000 miles

I have been the proud owner of my 2004 Astra club 1.6 16v Automatic. for a few years

Over the last month a problem started to develop where the engine would stall when coming to a halt,
it was able to be re-started immediately and carried on running, this fault occurred intermittently and would go away or come back at will.

Last week it started doing it at every junction.

No engine management light has came on – no symbols showing on the dash

When car is started, after about 5 seconds the engine will suddenly stall, if you start moving the engine will keep going until you stop.

I have had a very good auto electrican look at my car - he can find no faults

No engine management light has came on – no symbols showing on the dash

He unplugged the MAP sensor and the engine then starts and runs fine, it doesn't cut out at all.

He replaced the MAP sensor it ran ok for a few miles
now it is back to stalling again .

The auto electrican is coming out next week to have another look

You mentioned above it starts OK but then cuts out after 5 seconds or so, and also stalls when coming to a halt, so as this seems to be happening in the lower rev range it could possibly be fuel related - fuel pump or a partially blocked fuel filter.

Was the fuel filter changed at the service or has it been changed in the last couple of years ?

Maybe an idea to have a diagnostics test run on it with TECH2 or OpCom (if you haven't already done so).

Thankyou for your answers
I will ask about the fuel filter to find out when it was last changed
also i will get the fuel pump looked at

i have this tuesday an auto electrician coming to re check things over
he has all the diagnostics test items with TECH2 and others

It did run ok for a few miles as i said it cut out most times when i stoped
yes i had to press very hard to keep it going - which i didn't like to do
but it got me home

Even though you don't have the EML light on, it may still have generated a fault code which the diagnostic test will show and should then point you in the right direction.
