A 'wheelie' Small Update!

November 2012

After 2 years of service, the 18's were removed this afternoon and the replacements fitted.

As the car has not turned a wheel since 23rd September, she was rolled out of the garage to have the new wheels fitted.

I still love the 18's but fancied a change.

Also, as I was looking to re-create the OPC prototype from back in 2002, I sourced a set of early spec Zafira GSi 17" alloys.

Unfortunately one turned out to be the later flatter type, so I had to order a new one.

My good friend Darren then re-furbed all four, and fitted these :-

4 x Toyo Proxy T1-R's in correct 215 40 17" size.

Then on they went!

I think the VXR brakes really fill out the 17" wheel!

Here are the 18's removed and now in storage!

After two years, the tyres, which are falken 452's still have just under 8mm tread on the rears, and the fronts have 6mm tread and the spare which is a continental has 6mm!

Some may say it is a come down, but the reason I got rid of the original GSi wheels, was because they were the later flat type and didn't look right.

I prefer the more pronounced early type!

Don't ask what it drives like with them as I havent driven it due to being SORN. I will have to wait until 1st April 2013 to find out!

Nice update Matt, TBH, you can't really go wrong with a set of 17" snowflakes.

They really do make the 322mm VXR discs seem huge!

Is that just slightly more drop than their "Pro" springs?

I am not sure Matt, I think it is a little higher than the off the shelf Pro Kit. As we know the Astra Coupe/Convertible had a 20mm lower suspension than the non sporty Astra's. I have the 'Pro-Kit', but I didn't want to go as low. It should be about 5mm higher than what you get from an off the shelf Pro Kit.

interesting so how much did that set you back

I am guessing 40mm front 30mm rear ?

see i got 215/45/17 on snowflakes with pirelli p zero's on the front and it grips like a mother f*cker

wanna tighten up the suspension so dunno whether to go 50/30 or 30/30 or 40/40

roads here are horrendous so i have to be mindful of comfort and road noise

I don't think you'll notice much with the 30/30 drop Mike. I had that on my MK4, and was rather disappointed with it
