Finally I found an Alfa 2.2 JTS M32 close ratio gearbox :D

So with zero miles on the clock with the corsa vxr 4.17 WR internals they are getting swapped for the Alfa 4.17 CR

The Alfa has the best gear ratios of all the petrol M32 gearboxes currently available showo..

max speed at 7800 rpm
1 - 36
2 - 59
3 - 88
4 - 121
5 - 147
6 - 161

Final drive ratio 4.17
1 - 3.818
2 - 2.353
3 - 1.571
4 - 1.146
5 - 0.943
6 - 0.861

the gearing would be similar to a 4.85 F23 :wtf:

update:

I fitted the Alfa M32 close ratio 4.17 gearbox last year and the gearing is perfect for my 7900rpm 2.2 NA :D

It was worth the wait for the Alfa box. I had fitted a brand new M32 GM slave cylinder previously and this time replaced the clutch cover with a brand new GM z22se item.

The last job on my gearbox list is to fit a different 6th gear set to the Alfa box, I have removed these from my spare corsa vxr box and will fit them over the coming winter.

I managed to find a supplier for the Timken M32 bearings, ordered a couple yesterday afternoon and they arrived this morning :D

I need them because the originals get destroyed when you remove the 6th gear cogs, so I now have all the parts required to swap the 6th gear.

This 6th gear I gather will be a closer ratio gear to the original Alfa one?
And when this is installed whats your predictions for the cars top speed?

I'm changing it because currently the revs only drop 700 from 5th to 6th and I want a better cruising top gear, so the corsa vxr 6th gear will give a more relaxed 1200rpm drop :D

current gearing on the close ratio Alfa M32;

1 - 3.818, 37mph
2 - 2.353, 60mph
3 - 1.571, 89mph
4 - 1.146, 123mph
5 - 0.943, 149mph
6 - 0.861, 163mph

new corsa vxr 6th gear - 0.744, 190mph

My vx could hit the 7900 rev limiter in 6th on the current gearbox :silent:

M32 is a great gearbox, nice and light compared to other 6 speed boxes, plus the gear change is super smooth :D

I still haven't fitted the corsa vxr 6th gear, but I hope to make a start on this winters upgrades next month, at this rate they will be spring 2012 upgrades

I finally swapped the 6th gear the other week, was very easy once the parts were warmed up with a hot air gun

an interesting read! So for a list of parts would this be right (astra g)?

an M32 box, Corsa VXR or Alfa seems to be the best plug and play
z22se M32 lightened flywheel from TTV Racing
Helix M32 sprung clutch plate (TTV can also supply a M32 sprung clutch plate)
z22se clutch cover
standard M32 slave cylinder
astra H M32 z20lel/ler/cdti 120 driveshafts and gear linkage/lever assembly.

you may have to modify the rear gearbox mount if you use the alfa 2.2 gearbox, the corsa vxr will not fit the z22se engine, nor will the astra vxr.
for a direct fit use only the vectra C (3.95) or signum 2.2 (3.83) M32 gearboxes
