Hey guys ive got the chance to purchase an astra mk 5 coupe with a z22yh engine and 6 speed m32 - these were sold in Oz but not over in Uk i understand. After driving it - i noticed it lacked the throttle response of my old mark 4 that had the airbox derestricted and a ported throttle body...

Scotty Kilmer comments on the 2.2 ECOTEC

Nassa 1. buy genuine spark plugs the spark plug gap is set - u dont have to touch it. 2. The compression on a healthy z22se is between 175-230 psi. 3. You should have replaced the gasket. The z22se is a great engine but its not perfect - if treated properly it will run and run and...

Scotty Kilmer comments on the 2.2 ECOTEC

Saying the engine is designed to do 100k before a cam chain swap is a bit of a cop out. In the old days a chain got loose and maybe a bit rattly but it didnt self destruct the engine. Thats the whole point of having a chain and not a toothed rubber belt - so u dont have to worry about such...

Very unfair that u have two astras and im struggling to find one!!!:(:( Can u send pics of the second one??? Unless u live in a warm climate i think u will be hard pressed to do more than 454k on original chain - where i live start up temp for me on a cold morning is about 8 degrees (for about...

I think they are great engines with some MINOR design flaws which can lead to fatal consequences in the hands of idiots. i currenty drive an alfa guilietta 1.4T - id kill to have my astra back. You will only really begin to appreciate how good these engines are when u drive something else...

    Z22se how good are they

Yeah very few modern engines with direct injection will get that sort of mileage because the heads get dirty too quickly and injectors take off the oil on the cylinder wall so the bores wear quicker than a non DI engine. Sadly my Astra is in heaven - im lookinig for another here is a pic from...

    Astra mk4 z22yh instead of z22se

Nice. Ive always liked the smoked head lights on silver paint. Yeah so much fun to drive - mine had a ported throttle body, panel filter and de-restricted intake. Thats all it really needed to give instant throttle response - i loved its ability to plug all the traffic gaps lol

    Z22se how good are they

Damn good! Anyone who says otherwise hasnt driven one especially in the lighter Astra. A well looked after z22se will easily hit 300K miles. Many in the usa have done 600k miles +. I did 300k miles on the original chain and it was still tight but i replaced it because one of the plastic...

    Astra mk4 z22yh instead of z22se

To be honest id rather have a z22se over a z22yh - they are more reliable - the heads keep cleaner cause they not direct injected and all things being equal will last longer. If u raise the comp ratio u get most most of the power and torque that a z22yh has anyway. Suitably modded the mk4...

    Astra mk4 z22yh instead of z22se

You could also skim the head by 1mm to raise the comp ratio to 11 to one. Apparently there is a good torque hike just by doing that alone.

Astra ‘07, 2.2L, 6 speed manual. Z22YH. I have NO idea about cars!

These are very common faults for z22yh and ur mechanic should investigate those first. Suggest you use the search facility on here and see if the symptoms match with the fault codes u have found. Ive heard on various forums the manual box needs a bit more oil than it comes with from the factory.

Z22SE What other injectors could I use?

Hi not sure what import duties apply but u could get some from USA https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chevrolet,2004,cavalier,2.2l+l4,1434209,fuel+&+air Many USA models use the Z22SE engine but its called L61 over there or L850
