Undo the yellow oil filler cap on top of your engine
Remove the plastic black engine cover(astra cover shown)
The oil filter is situated next to the throttle body and the filter is a cartiridge type that will need changing. To get to the filter you have to undo a black cap with a large hexagon nut on top. Remove the cap and remove the filter, then leave the cap off.
Get under the car and locate the sump plug on the back of the sump
Undo this and catch the oil with a suitable container. Let it drain for about 20 minutes.
Buy a new sump plug washer when you buy your oil and filter.
Fit new washer and replace the sump plug. Load new filter and replace black plastic cap
Pour in new oil. Pour in about 4 ltrs and then check dipstick after letting the oil find its way to the bottom of the engine.
Top up until it shows on the dipstick. Replace the yellow oil filler cap and start the engine. Run for 5 minutes then switch off. Remove the yellow oil filler cap again and let the engine oil return to the sump for 5 minutes.
Recheck the level on the dipstick. Top up if required and replace the yellow filler cap.
Dispose of old oil at a dedicated site.
