Fit Rear Pads (Astra)

tool required
wheel brace
13mm spanner
wire brush
copper anti seize grease
new pads
Axle stand and trolley jack
cup including hot water, tea bag, milk and sugar added as required...

right
so first off jack up the car at the rear making sure the car is in gear and on level ground handbrake should be off to make it possible to remove the HB cable from caliper, place the Axle stand under the rear sill on a secure place so the car won't drop on you....

once the wheel is removed the hand brake cable needs to be removed from caliper i used a spanner to push the HB arm down then lift the cable out (plies may be required for this)..

on the rear of the caliper there are 2 13mm bolts top and bottom where the rubber dust covers are remove these to bolts

now the caliper can be placed out of the way i just hung mine up on the spring

slide out your old pads inner and outer and then pull out the anti squeal shims, then wire brush all dust and grime from shims and caliper bracket then replace shims
Image384Small.jpg

once shims are replaced your new pads can go in (the pad with metal lug goes on the inside of caliper)

next up is the hard bit so take 5 and have a bru
Image381Small.jpg

the rear caliper is a skew type piston and needs to be pushed in and turned at the same time their is a specialist tool for this but i did it the hard way using circlip pliers and G clamp takes a bit longer than expected....
Image412.jpg

make sure it is just far enough in to go over your new pads(leave about 2-4mm gap between pad and piston)if the piston is to far in it will decrease Hand brake performance once this is done refit caliper and bolt back in place
Image386Small.jpg

using the spanner again refit HB cable same as it came off and then it should be done
I'm unsure on how to adjust the handbrake so I'll just get mine done next time its in for an oil change at the VX dealers....
hope this helps... :D
