Here you go: BTW I just did the throttle pedal pot adjustment described here to the silver one. Best mod ever for these cars, changes throttle response from "WTF is this s**t!" to "hum, not bad at all", and at zero cost (if we don't account for the profuse swearing required).

Cheers Nassa. Well it has been positively beneficial on my red car. When I got it with ~193K km it drank about 1 L/1000 km, now after the mod and at ~250k km it drinks about 0.4 L/1000 km. Moreover, the car revs happier and pulls harder (crankcase vacuum also improves ring sealing), and the...

^ Apparently they fitted these 3.6-litre V6 engines with an even smaller metered orifice than our 2.2 four-pots. What could possibly go wrong? :hungover: Here's how an enterprising user attacked the problem: I recommend a careful reading of this associated thread, extremely informative: LLT...

^ :wideyed: IMHO that oil sample is screaming "insufficient crankcase ventilation!!!". The 2.5mm/0.100 inch OEM metered orifice can't cope with the higher amounts of blow-by from a relatively high mileage engine, and the oil gets fouled quickly. You may find this of interest...

Maybe we should explore ways to smuggle a car into Oz? :D On second thought however, one of the two likes his steering wheel on the wrong side of the car. :) The silver one is currently at dry dock, when it sails again I'll take some pics of the pair. ;) Well climate here around is...

Scotty Kilmer comments on the 2.2 ECOTEC

We guys posting here are petrolheads. We're aware of the flaws, and are prepared and motivated to deal with them. But the vast majority of users (the "idiots" I guess) don't have a clue. They're defenceless, easy prey to design flaws. That's the audience Scotty is addressing, the automotive...

Scotty Kilmer comments on the 2.2 ECOTEC

As a matter of fact nowadays I own two Z22SE engined Astra Coupes . Decent price/performance beater cars at today's prices. But I've got a no-bullcrap, zero political correction approach to things mechanical. When I see something that sux, I say it. I can attest to that, for the second one...

Scotty Kilmer comments on the 2.2 ECOTEC

I like this engine when it works reasonably OK, but "one of the best they've produced"? You gotta be kidding me. · Frail timing chain gear that will grenade the engine unless you keep a watchful eye and ear on it. · Defective oil control ring design (no holes for oil evacuation from the...

Z22SE My whole head has this pattern. Is this normal?

Yes it's normal, the weird texture is just due to the the lost foam casting process.

    Z22se how good are they

^ This man speaks the truth! Few people are aware of the dark side of DI ... The intake valves fouling is such a problem that automakers are gradually switching to dual injection, with both one direct in-chamber injector, and one "extra" port injector just for keeping the intake valves clean...

Z22SE For one year now I can't still make my car run smoothly

^ Carch cans are a nice idea, but make sure that they are of reasonable quality and don't leak any vacuum, particularly the one on the post-throttle line. Beware that the typical cheap catch-cans from ebay are hopeless pieces of crap that will leak vacuum like sieves. Forgot to mention that a...

Z22SE For one year now I can't still make my car run smoothly

^ Sounds like loads of blow-by generating loads of crankcase pressure that isn't properly evacuated and wreaks havoc inside the engine, compounded by stuck oil control rings (common on high mileage Z22SEs due to the defective piston design, see here). If I were you I'd first reconnect the...

    Percentage of ethanol in gasoline

On some SAAB engines, courtesy of a gadget called eSID2, you can monitor the percentage of ethanol in your fuel tank. This is inferred from the alterations in lambda ratio, gasoline is stoich @ λ=14.7, whule ethanol is stoich @ λ=9.0 . I wonder is this could be achieved somehow on our Z22SE...
