Off-set??

....another stupid question, it has been a while....

my alloys are R17 225/45 (7,0J x 17 5x114.3 d67.1 ET56.0)

.......how important is the ET value....what difference does it really make (depending on numerical difference) :?

Offset is the distance between the hub mounting face at the back of the wheel and the wheel's centreline.
Offset is usually stamped or engraved into the wheel and is measured in millimetres of 'ET'
[ET is the short form of the German word 'Einpresstiefe' which literally translates as 'insertion depth']
Positive Offset wheels have their mounting face toward the front face of the wheel. Most front wheel drive vehicles have positive ET wheels. Eighties and Nineties Volkswagen wheels are usually ET38.
Zero Offset wheels have their mounting face even with the centerline of the wheel and are by definition "ET 0".
Negative Offset wheels have their mounting face toward the rear of the wheel - powerful rear-wheel drive cars often have wheels with negative offset.

so between ET50 - ET60 will fit, it just moves the wheel further in or out from the hub

It`s just so hard looking for alloys as my cars not listed on any of the sites, (even the 5 door Ceed which has been out for a while now)
Most alloys with the 5x115 stud pattern have an ET of around 45?????

I can get £100 off with a voucher on Ebay, but cant risk getting a set that wont fit!!!!!!
