reversing light switch on the gearbox

I have the same issue and as the lights work intermittantly was pretty confident of it not being the bulbs or fuse.
I have got a replacement switch but how easy is it to find and replace on (ideally) an Astra. The Hayes manual talks about raisng the car up possibly removing the engine cover rather than getting acces from the engine bay? Not having done much car repair before as descriotive as possible would be good.

it's quite easy to replace the reversing light switch, it sits near the radiator, access should be possible from the top, but maybe theres too many pipes in the way, so easier to reach from underneath ?

i managed to find it eventually, goodness knows where the Haynes photo was taken from. i had to go up from underneath, basically it was behind the passinger side front wheel. It was also a bit tight to get the spanner in but luckily it didn't take much to loosen it enough to be able unscrew it by hand.

Take it that's the same for a vectra??? still haven't got round to doing mine yet, hopefuly this weekend though!!

the haynes manual describes it as ontop on the left side transmission. I never had direct line of site of it properly i had to follow the wiring to it and get the spanner onto it by feel.

Mines just gone too, great fun reversing with no streetlamps around :p

Best way i can describe its location is on the back of the gearbox above the passenger driveshaft (on a vectra B), i used a mirror on a stick to get a good look and see how to release the clip.
