EGR blanking

Just a quick question about the EGR; If I just blank it off and leave the electrical fitted would this not still work ok or does doing it this way mean the MIL light comes on and a cheater would be needed?

If you blank off and dont use a cheater then you need to leave the egr valve connected, a few people bolt it to one side 50/ 50 on with a longer bolt.

So why the real need for the cheater that people have been fitting, when it's just as easy to blank off and leave it connected or am I missing something else here , is it just in case there is a malfunction of the EGR?

the egr cheater was originally designed to replace a duff egr valve, they can cost over £200 fitted !

many owners just do away with it before it packs up, but if you catch it early enough it should last longer with the blanking plate and swiveled to one side mod

Cheers for that mate, is the reason for bolting it to one side due to the awkward position of one of the mounting bolts?

it's to allow the valve to still open and close, the ecu monitors the valve moving

blanking off the egr is personal preference and a cheap alternative when the unit is faulty

ppl say removing the egr valve does increase response etc - however i have not really found any difference other than the car doesnt hesitate as much - i did it on my ecotec calibra and it did sound better and more like a redtop

you can blank off the egr and keep the sensor hooked up to the ecu by leaving it idle somewhere in the engine bay, however you cannot unplug the egr even though you have blanked it off as it is a major sensor on most ecu's and causes the car to run in limp mode - hence the egr cheater

on the 2.0 ecotecs you just put a piece of metal underneath the egr and screw the egr back into place with it plugged in and 99 times out of a 100 the problem is cured

the z22se egr cheater will not work on any other engine because the egr circuit is different on the z22se to all other vauxhall engines

cut out the bottom of a can of beans or cat food and put it underneath the egr valve and ontop of the bracket and screw it back together with the sensor plugged in

hello fit egr cheater yesterday car running fine but man lght came on this morning checked with tech 2 egr trouble code stored again in the datalist reading it reads 1.34v feedback signal could i have a faulty cheater.

Did someone researched a little bit closer the case with the engine management.
What I mean is, that when the Opel or Vauxhall dealer blanks the EGR at the 2003 models according to the remedy 1721, they install the newest software version to the ecu (without EGR).
When you blank the EGR without changing the software, the mapping is not ideal in part modus, when the EGR would be working.

that is correct, at certain cruise conditions the ecu modifys the map to compensate for the open egr valve, the only true fix is the later software or keep an egr valve 🙁

Vocky, are we saying that we should really be blanking off the EGR valve and getting the software updated as opposed to blanking and fitting the cheater?
