blanking off the egr is personal preference and a cheap alternative when the unit is faulty
ppl say removing the egr valve does increase response etc - however i have not really found any difference other than the car doesnt hesitate as much - i did it on my ecotec calibra and it did sound better and more like a redtop
you can blank off the egr and keep the sensor hooked up to the ecu by leaving it idle somewhere in the engine bay, however you cannot unplug the egr even though you have blanked it off as it is a major sensor on most ecu's and causes the car to run in limp mode - hence the egr cheater
on the 2.0 ecotecs you just put a piece of metal underneath the egr and screw the egr back into place with it plugged in and 99 times out of a 100 the problem is cured
