If done correctly, painted wheels are just like any other set of wheels, because wheels are painted from the factory. Wheel paint is not really special in any way, so if you use quality paint and to the job right you will have no problems. Unless of course you curb them, or as mentioned you have monkeys changing your tyres, but these things would damage any wheel.
Here’s a set I did recently:
When I got them, they were pretty bashed up.

First thing was to clean them, then sand them down. The paint layer is quite thin, so not a lot of sanding is required.
I then filed down some of the really bad areas.
Then when over with solvent and a clean rag, before spraying with a high quality 2K primer. Once dry I gave them a light sand and used filler in the damaged areas, then sanded them flat.
I then sprayed the inside and face with the colour of choice and followed with a quality 2K clearcoat. I used matte clear, for a duller OEM look.

I got the tyres fitted at a trusted tyre shop, and haven’t had a problem.
Like any painting, if you prepare it properly and use quality product, you’ll get a good job.
