Suspect maps at Chipped UK again!!

Chipped UK have been accused of fraudulent maps over on VVOC.

Bloody Chipped uk!!!

Well went down to Midpoint Garage in cheshire(on Friday) for an eds software upgrade on my car(ecu) they took the old map off done by chipped uk..... and when Ian compared the program against a standard vauxhall map there was no difference!!! also they put a firewall/virus on there to stop other companies reading the ecu or altering the program bloody great eh also rang chipped uk they told me the ecu can't be written over again and they don't put firewalls in there program's bulls**t so a new program is being written for me and being sent from germany so thursday off we go again this time there going to wipe my ecu totally and start again, what a bloody nightmare

I will always remember the guy with a vectra 2.5 v6 who supposedly got a 30 bhp flywheel increase, but strangely kept the same wheel hp.

I would not recommend using them.

That sounds awfully familiar!!!!

Don't chipping companies usually put a header into the ECU map to say that they have done work on it?

I said to Simon to give Chipped the benefit of doubt but this story seems to be cropping up a little too often for doubt.

Yep, Jason @ Chipped said it was more to do with Rivalry between RSTuning and them, but when it was back down there......he had a standard map.

What engine did the car in question have from the VVOC thread?

That would require a HUGE amount of work in the code 🙂. Interesting that they would invest such an amount of time to implement this and then not be able to actually map the ECU.

Oh, and if there really is a firewall there, how is he going to "wipe" the ECU?? Bit difficult to do when you can't program it. All sounds a bit dodgey to me.

Solder on/replace with a new EEPROM? The only way i can think to stop people to get at the file would be to mess up the CRC wouldn't it? Mark do you know what EEPROM the E15 Delco uses? I wonder why its so hard to de-cipher.

You can buy an interface and just read out the memory. No problem. If you mess up the CRC the ECU won't want to run. It is pretty specific with failsafes to prevent that the engine will be run with either corrupted flash memory OR corrupted RAM.

The only way I can think of to make it difficult for people to get the memory content, is to remove the upload routines from the software. Short from removing the flash memory and reading it directly it will be pretty difficult to do anything..
