Oil in Water Expansion Bottle

It appears since I replaced the cyclinder head gasket I am still getting oil in bottle. This is the second time i have done this job having replaced the head with another one due to cracking of the cylinder head caused by overheating. I can do this job in my sleep but frankly running out of steam! The traces of oil appear to be coming from the hose below the bottle cos if you disconnect the rear engine hose (ie. the one feeding the heater matrix) the water is clear. The head was skimmed and everything cleaned up and I used new head bolts, and of course replaced the timing chain. Engine is sweet. Is there a bedding in period or is the block cracked? Any suggestions to fixing this problem? Does it require a sealant to be added to the coolant to fix this problem.?

I would say it's oil from the last failure still in the system, so flush the system again

washing machine tablets are suppose to be effective

chuck on in for a few huors and let her idle and reach temp and take her out for a quick spin

i suggest you also disconnect your matrix hoses and give them a seperate flush

i do know with the x20xev 2.0 ecotec engines in the veccy b's and calibra's they suffered from rotten heater matrix's that looked like oil in header tank

Thanks for your replys. I have since retightened the head bolts and flushed the system, and cleaned the bottle. It appears to have sorted the problem but I will keep an eye on the problem. Even flushing the system did not appear show oil deposits only in the bottle. The heater matrix is clean as I have drained both inlet and outlet pipes. Where would you aquire these washing machine tablets from?

Can someone explain this washing machine tablets suggestion? Are we suggesting that we flush clothing detergent around the engine?

if you buy the coolant flush from halfords it is like washing powder 🙂

someone suggested it to me

most likely dishwasher tablets as it doesn't foam up

i know they put detergant tablets in marine engines to flush it out etc

on the mg rover forum they suggest using a dishwasher tablet instead

Never heard of that either.....we've got a super duper cooling system flush we use in work.....and that works wonders....

i also have been told washing powder is very good at removing oil deposits from your engine

Good news lads. Oil appears to be less in coolant expansion bottle. I may try some of these tablets but it may cos me more concern. Anyway anyone noticed the sharp decrease in value of our z22se vectras. I thought about asking 2500 for a fully stamped up immaculate etc. but I woder if I will get 1800 on a Y plate with years MOT and tax unless anyone is interested let me know?

I'm in the same boat, my vectra will have to go soon, It owes me £12k and I will be lucky to get £2k with less than 40k on the clock 🙁
