Weston Super-Mare Grand Pier Fire pics

I couldn't believe it when I heard the Radio 1 news this morning that the pier was on fire. We went into the office and watched Sky News Live Feed online. We couldn't get over how quickly that the fire ripped thru' the building.

Anyway, I went down to Weston tonight to see the devestation. There were hundreds of people lined along the sea front with lots of news crews. The remains of the pier were still smouldering this evening.

I have a lot of childhood memories of this place as do thousands of others. It was a nice day out with my kids too on a weekend. Its such a shame.

Wow, that is gutting, went there a few times as a nipper, and it hasnt long been refurbished, hope no one was hurt and it gets rebuilt.

Nobody was hurt. It was bought by a private owner in February and underwent refurbishment. They spent £2 million and reopened in April. It was a really strange, eerie feeling down there this evening.

Aye, Shame that, someone told me it looked like a Insurance job, private owner ran out of money. so i heard.....

Not much chance of that. He's owns a chain of hotels, and a few of them are in Weston. Its being rebuilt as its in his interests as without the pier Weston has nothing. His hotels would then fail along with all the others and a lot of the other businesses too.
