I have a virus on my pc called a "Downloader"

Type: Trojan Horse
Systems Affected: Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows XP

Downloader connects to the Internet and downloads other Trojan horses or components.

Note: Virus definitions dated June 1, 2006 or earlier may detect this threat as Download.Trojan.

Downloader does the following:

Goes to a specific Web or FTP site that its author created and attempts to download new Trojans, viruses, worms, or their components.
After the Trojan downloads the files, it executes them.

How can I get rid of this please? I have Windows Vista on my pc. Cheers

If its Js downloader agent, I had to put a recoverey disc in my lap top to stop that :-(

Have you any antivirus software running?

how do u KNOW this is the virus u have , if u found it out using anti-virus software then u should be able to quarentine it if not delete it , if you dont have any anti-virus software i can show you some freeware.

I have an up to date Noton but it can't delite it for some reason.

That's Norton for you. Did Norton actually find the virus and tell you what it was etc?

Install AVG free edition. I've been running that for years, and never suffer from half the problems you seem to have Mark......you need to keep off the dodgy sites 😃

Yes Norton told me I had it after a scan it did. I got it from a torrent I think, if I remember right it was free internet tv software I tried to get. Have you got a link for me Matt to get the AVG 🙂

you should have option to quarentine the virus with norton , but norton uses up so much resources so install AVG

Well I think it's ok now. Had some major issues with it this morning! Nothing would load up, juts kept getting an orange light on my monitor. As soon as I was entering my Vista windows password the screen would go blank. I had to boot it up in safe mode, then do a system restore and wipe all my cookies and history. Did another scan and all was fine 🙂

Good stuff. Get rid of Norton as well. It's a major resource hog, and you'll find the computer runs a hell of a lot faster without it.

All I run is AVG pro (costs about £30 a year for everything) with Anti-Virus and Firewall (Vista Laptop) and AVG Free with Windows Firewall (Desktop)

Agree, get rid of norton, all i have on the lappie is avg 8.0 free.
