When fitting the chain what....

When fitting the timing chain and balance chain kit what bolts have to be torqued up? Does everything that comes off the timing chain and area need to be torqued off? It just that some areas are tricky to get into and with a torque wrench. I just need to know what needs torqued off please 🙂. Cheers

the small M6 bolts (10mm head) are only about 10Nm so all done by hand and nipped up rather than really tight

I only use the torque wrench for the cam bolts - you must hold the cam with a 24mm spanner to torque the bolts, do not use the chain to torque against

Careful with the guide bolts tho mark....overtighten them and you could pull the threads out the block.,..

Well I think Neil means the cam cover bolts and as for the guide bolts have I removed any of those yet lol. I will learn whats what soon enough when I come to do it. I might be getting one of the chain kits tomorrow. stickman

all the M6 / '10mm head' bolts are only 10 Nm / 8 ft lb's so not tight

Right next question is how do I line up my timing? What do I turn to get it lined up? Can I see the marks eay enough? Cheers for the info 🙂

just refit the crank bolt or put the car in gear and rock the car forward

I can't go forward as the car is right up on my drive. I will put the crank bolt back on and turn it, I won't need the wheel back on the crank will I?

jack up the drivers side of the car leave the passengers side on the floor and turn the drivers side wheel with ya hand this will turn the engine over.

Plus 30 degrees means tighten the bolt up then tighten afurther 30 degrees....on that link to halfords you put up theres an angle gauge there....thats what u shud use....

30 Will still be the same torque setting won't it Daz? So once it's clicked just turn it again another 30 degrees till it clicks again? What order do I do each bolt? Sorry abourt all the questions mate. I just need to make sure I know what I am doing

Tighten upto 85nm......start with either bolt ,makes no diff....then tighten afurther 30 degree....

I always thought they had to go in a certain order when getting torqued up. That 30 degree thing looks easy enough to use 🙂. So all the parts that come in the cam chain kits do not need torqued off either? Just nip them up at about 10NM by hand. Cheers Daz

All of the bolts aprt from the cam and crank bolts are just done up "tight". the crank bolt is 140nm + 40-50 degree's
