Oil Pressure Gauge - Tempramental/ Intermittent

Hi Guys

I'm in australia so forgive me for not having prior knoweledge of this post having been done before.

I have replaced the oil light switch on my Z22SE with a pressure sender that sends a signal to my gauge. However, the gauge works intermittently....sometimes it shows pressure, (around 60psi) and sometimes it jumps around all over the place, and then sometimes nothing at all.

I have checked the circuit for all forms of continuity/voltage leak/short to ground etc and there are not probles there.

Has anyone else suffered this? Have I tapped into the wrong place? Does a Z22SE use an oil filter bypass valve im unaware of? Therefore letting my gauge fluctuate so violently?

Please help as its driving me mad!

60 psi is "low" for the z22se
my gauge normally sticks at the maximum 7 bar most of the time (100psi+)

same here, my oil pressure gauge goes off the scale - 100 psi

checked oi llevel last night, and for leaks....seems my problem might be a faulty sender unit....

where also can ypu plug in a oil pressure gauge? on a astra as i heard u cant put a sender unit on that as ther is no space.

I had an adapter made up that fits into the threaded hole where the oil light switch originally was, and it comes out on an angle with the sender unit mounted to the other end.
It was a pain to fit and have made up.

Can anyone tell me if there is an off the shelf unit? (Sender/Adapter/Line).....

I'll even pay to get it sent from the UK to Aus!

I have decided the problem is this:

I am using a 0-5 Bar Sender unit , with a gauge that only reads up to 100psi.
Thus, creating a fluctuating symptom as it fails to read the pressure correctly (too much resistance in circuit)

Can anyone you tell me (maybe Alanoo?) what gauge and sender you are running? And where you bought it? Due to the old technology in Aussie cars (and their low oil pressures) , our local suppliers generally don't stock "high PSi" oil pressure gauges/sender units.
