Any Engine Boffins on here to lend a hand ???

sorry, i didnt explain myself very well. how often are you supposed to change the fuel filter. the car was supposed to have a full service history from vauxhall , but we have so many problems with the car. that i doubt that has been done. i was wondering if doing this would make the car more pesponsive. i have recieved the new engine cover today. i am suprised it is so thick. maybe this will solve some of the noise cheers helen.

fuel filter should be changed every 40k, but I would advise to change it on a newly purchased car for peace of mind

thanks for that. i will get one tommorrow. from vauxhall. are they hard to fit? i hate to think how much rubbish is in the filter. when kev took the sump pan off, it had been welded with liquid metal, that had gone through the pick up filter into the oil filter. the previous owners had drilled a hole though the pick up filter. thats how bad the sump was even though, it was stamped from vauxhall saying the filters had been changed.

sounds like perrys did it... i would get someone to change the fuel filter cus without be rude can be tricky. you need to depressurise the system and ive seen someone set fire to the engine bay changin one he he.

the fuel filter sits underneath the rear passenger seat, as above de-pressurise the system and then it's just a case of unclipping the fuel pipes, make sure you have a rag to catch the fuel

And make sure you look which way the arrow points on it before removing it ;-)

i am going to get the fuel filter next week. , so hopefully it will get fitted soon. i am surpised on how fast the car is. i have had to promise kev not to drive fast for a while, until i have run the new head in..i will admit i have put my foot down a few times... a girl racer in the making...

no real need to run in the head, once it's settled it should be fine 🙂

thanks for that. we have noticed that we now appear to have a tapping sound,we only hear it on tick over when the engine is warm. it seems to be coming from the cam chain area. any advise.

you will get some slight noise from the cam chain as it is chain driven not belt driven, all cam chain driven cars make a bit of noise

the noise you got to look out for sounds like someone with a metal chisel whacking down hard on your aluminium cam cover, sounds more like a high pitched knocking sound than taps

dont forget you have a little air pump located on the side of the air box that kicks in when the engine is warm and makes a small tapping sound

could be the power steering pump, they tend to be quite noisy

get a long screwdriver and place the tip onto the engine and listen with your ear at the handle, you will soon find where the noise comes from

when you put your hand over the top of the engine mounting, you can feel the knocking through your hand, if that makes any sense. i have been told it could be the powersteering belt tensioner. could this be right.

not sure, what you mean. ? what is a compression test. can you do it yourself.? all help appreciated.
