Any Engine Boffins on here to lend a hand ???

Guys. im running a 2.2 150 Vectra and have a remus middle section thru to a magnex backbox. (precat removed) thru my gears when i change going up she pops as i change. and also coming down my gears the exhuast pops away. that doesnt bother me. what has is when im coming down a gear right thru. from top to bottom and then accelerate. its like its mis firing and lumpy and sounds like its not firing on all cyclinders. so i give it abit more and it clears.. what could it be ????

could be the plugs or running a little lean, might be worth an ecu reset as it costs nothing :lol:

you knoe vocky i was thinkin the same - i was gonna give the plugs a clean also i have a cold feed chip on. i thought that might be makin it run lean. but ive had it on ages and not had a prob. also i take it disonnectin the battery is the best way to clear the ecu ???

binned mate - after getting rid of it engine sounded abit rough so ive been driving around and its now seems alot better. ecu ajusting i guess.

Give the ECU a reset now that bag of crap resistor is gone, should clear up any problems with rough running

right guys ive disconnect the battery for over an hour and changed my plugs for brand new GM sparks plugs and got a second hand ignition coil fitted and still im gettin a random misfiring. like one of the clyinders is not firing. if i put my foot down it clears or if i turn engine off and start up again it clears. doesnt do it all the time. just now and again. ive just put some STP injector cleaner in my tank hopin its a dirty injector. what else could it be ? im thinkin a faulty injector. Vocky could you lend me your wisdom ???? (ive just ordered a brand new ignition coil)

I have heard of injectors failing, it could well be that or a blocked fuel filter ?

if i get my mate to fault code read would it tell me ? how would i know if i have a blocked fuel filter ? btw. my exhaust is always poppin away. at the end of gears and coming down them... is this a fault..i mean it does sound good....

mine pops all the time it normal dont worry about it if i remember right correct me if im worng i think it to do wiv suction and the engine slows down if u think its a fuel fitler its only a case od a 5mins job and about £6 from vx the car will seem like it strugglying and can stall on start up. put the code reader on it could tell u some stuff but mite not work. the only think i found wiv the amount of popping my exhaust has done it has killed my irmscher back box lol

the fuel filter lives under the rear passenger seat, you access the filter from underneath the car

remember to de-pressurise the system before changing the filter, there is a bleed valve on the fuel pipe above the fuel rail, simply remove the black cover and press the valve like a car tyre valve

Right ive bought one.. cost me 15.00 from vxl. gonna have a go. weekend the cars in my mates garage for a full diagnostic. but the eml light hasnt come on so will it report a fault.

Mine also pops and sounds 'strange' on overrun, kinda like a deep 'vrum vrum vrum vrum' noise. I do have Piper cams but it didn't always do it.

I also had an airleak a while back which i dont think ive 100% fixed. Mine also lurches forward sometimes at 1500rpm when before it just popped... Could be worth trying to find likely airleaks by cheching if the inlet manfold is tight, Maybe remove the EGR, Check the Fuel Return valve is tight on the inlet manifold etc.

Right . Well diagnostic came back NFF. clean as a whistle. altho engine is running alot better now and hasnt done it....yet. my mate said it might be a sticky valve or injector. so he put some forte in. he said this stuff will sort it. so ive still got to fit my fuel filter.. is there any point ??

might be worth asking your mate to fit the fuel filter

£15 for a fuel fitler thats well expensive lol but if u dont know how to fit the fitler can be trickey so get ur mate to do it like vocky said

i would change the fuel filter just soo its done mate, it should be changed every now and again, especially if youve used injector cleaner.
