Re: Electrical help (New S/S shield)
This week I decided that it was time to modify my heat shield slighty. The existing shield was fabricated from aluminium sheet as it was all that I could lay my hands on at the time and it was only an experimental project. As it was, the shield seems to be doing to trick keeping the heat away from the battery .
Well, I put my hand in my pocket this week and bought some stainless steel sheet from a local sheet metalworking shop that we use in work. It was £15 for a sheet 250x250x1mm. And very shiney too, mirror finish stainless.
I went into work today and just happened to have a little while free, so I got to making my new shield. I extended the bottom edge of the sheet so that its 25mm longer than the first one and instead of a slight angle to the rear i've now got a 90` bend so that the stainless wraps around the back of the battery.
I also had another brainwave this afternoon. To aid heat reflection, I remembered that you can buy plumbers soldering mat. Its a heat resistant mat that's used for putting between pipes and skirting boards when you are using a blow torch to solder. I popped along to Focus after work and got one for £3.79. It was perfect size to. 250x250mm, same as my plate.
Its all fitted now and is very shiney. A few pics below showing the finished shield and the shield fitted to the car with the new heat resistant matting.
