Yet another snapped chain (HELP)

Hi all, my first post so take it easy on me eh?!!

Chain snapped on monday, 20mph in third

stripped it down, and head is off.

Found a load of bent valves and cracked guides( most valves are knackered inlet and exhaust)

so I want to know my next course of action really

can i replace the guides myself, or is it a send away job( somewhere cheap??? )

should I replace balance chain aswell????

Anything else i should consider, other than the new oil nozzle??!! noth.

it's probably best to replace the balancer chain kit at the same time, the guides need to be pressed in so get them done at an engine shop

Just what i thought, so its off to a shop on sunday

as it snapped at 42000miles i dont think i will bother, (cash :cry: ) unless its damaged then i'll have to bite the bullet

any damage to the piston tops ?

you need to inspect the balancer chain for any signs of damage, if there is damage, however slight it must be replaced

if the balancer chain snaps, the cam chain probably will go to - again !

it's always a difficult decision when stuff costs so much, but bear in mind the consequences if it fails

For the sake of £90 or so and for my own peace of mind i wud change it anyhow.....

Thanks for the tips.

Just got some info back from the "engine workshop".

the valve guides are cracked and show a lot of wear, excessive for a car of 42000 miles so i'm told

just wondering if its normal

piston tops ok

how much would i pay for a full set of guides and valves?

got a vectra b sri 150 (51)
i had just started it this morning when it cut out straight away
so tryed 2 restart & all i got was a sound as tho starter was slipping or not meshing with flywheel
so i turned engine while in gear & car moved
but u think this was a bad move in case it has snapped chain
or does it have inserts on piston tops for the valves like the old engine with belt
does this sound like timing chain ?

usually the engine spins over very quick and quiet when the chain snaps, it could be the starter motor or a flat battery
