Balancer shaft???

hey every1, wonder if ne1 could shed sum light on this subject for me??

i hav a rattle, well not me personally lol, i hav a 02 vectra c, 2.2 of course, it rattles in start up last bout 5 r 10 mins then stops, u can hear it thou when u rev.

first thoughts were chain!! but i had one put on bout 10k miles ago, well i kinda had to, it slipped a cog, result 8 valves out the window an a topend rebuild 🙁
so thought cudnt be that.

so i left it in2 a mechanics for a quick luk, he checked the new chain an said it was 100%, so he suggusted it cud b the balancer shaft???

been told that this involves a total rebuild??? is this rite r is it nt as big a job as that???

the fact the rattle quietens down would eliminate a total rebuild, it could be a noisy hydraulic lifter, these quieten down after a few minutes running

but of course the balancer shafts (there are two) have their own chain, this might have a duff tensioner (which also could quieten after a few minutes running)

the balancer shaft chain kit costs about £125 + fitting

the hydraulic followers cost £10 each, £160 + fitting

also it's possible the new timing chain tensioner is noisy, a second opinion might help

thanks for the reply, well suppose thats a bit of relief that a rebuild cud be out, been tryin to get in contact with my ususl mechanic to get his opinion but hes off work wi a bad back. is the balancer shafts kit an engine out of the car job??? wat do you get in the kit??? sori for all the questions.

balancer shaft kit is similar to the timing chain kit = 3 x guides / 1 x chain / 1 x tensioner / bolts

the only downside to replacing the balancer shaft chain kit is the cam chain has to be removed, otherwise it's done the same way the timing chain is

yeah hopefully it not as bad as first thought, cheers for the welcome, still workin my way through all the info on here, really like the look of sum of the thorttle bodies i saw on here, got me thinkin........ lol
