Well I went and bought something that I really wanted but could never bring myself to buy before. A B&M Shortshift Gearstick. Its an aluminium billet short throw stick. I was a bit hesitant when I read thru' the instructions. I thought that it would be straight forward and that I could do the job without removing the gearstick assembly from the center console but this wasn't the case.
After much scratching of the head I took the plunge and disconnected the gear linkage cables then proceeded to extract the assembly. Out it came and onto the garage floor. You have to break a pivot pin to get the OE stick out but everything that you need to replace it is included in the kit. A nice new aluminium annodised blue pin and c-clip for a replacement. It was a bit messy with all the new grease that you have to apply but once its all back together I cleaned off the excess.
Before completion I checked that I could select all the gears and everything was okay. I also bought some new gaitors for the stick and ther handbrake. Opinions welcomed on the colour.
