Using Oil

I'm using quite a lot of oil about 1ltr per 1000miles. There blue smoke out the back too if i boot it so i've definatly got a problem. Where should i start.........oil seals?

You should start looking a the piston rings first as i believe this is the cause of the blue smoke when accerating hard, the signs of the oils seals going is blue smoke when starting from cold.

big job? i assume it's everything off right down to the head gasket?

Can be, i belive, could be a new head? new rings / gaskets etc a fairly big job.

N/A's can smake as well Jamee.

All depends how they have worn, end of day you wont know till you pull it apart, sure some one more technical will answer the Q.

i know they smoke, but i thought blue smoke was from the turbo???

Nope, you can get mega blue smoke from a N/A trust me i have had a couple in the past, one was a vec 2.2 past 5K used to plume it out LOL.

I would think removing the head to access the pistons will be the worst bit, dropping the sump to slip out the pistons is easy

probably best to replace the valve stem seals whilst the head is off too
