air con again!!!!!! any ideas

hi .....my aircon wasnt working so had regassed at kwik fit.....was nice and cold...there machine detected no leaks....3 weeks later theres no cold air...took back and they said had dropped a little and perhpas the 1 guy hadnt put enough in.they regassed again and fine for 3 weeks or so then no cold air..been back today and they re dun again...3 times now.the 1 guy reckons there might have ben too much pressuere in there 2nd time and that why not working.you can hear the compressor start and everything when you switch on.the revs drop too to indicate summit happening.3 times now and they said it not leaking.thing i noticed tho is it not very quiet.you can hear a kinda humming type noise when you got on and it alters with the sound of then engine revs...wondered if the compressor etc is belt driven ???? and the belt slipping or is it all electric >>?? im boggled as too why it losing its coldness when aparently it nbot showing any leaks
any ideas????

The compressor is driven off of the crank pulley belt run. The compressor works on a clutch system and is free wheeling until you switch on the aircon and then the compressor engages IIRC.

so is there a chance the belt is slipping??? theres some oil round tht area of the crankshaft oil ..slight leak.is the belt near the air filter box ??

Matt has been having problems with aircon recently. His condesor is leaking. It could be that causing the problem.

I wouldn't think that the belt would slip as its under tension and its the same belt that goes around the altenator.

is there anyway to find if it is leaking ??? according to there machine it not leaking anything but would a tin y hole or something fool it?

Are they using the dye in the system when regassing? I know when my pipe was split that it used to piss dye out all over the place once I switched the aircon on.

nah i dont think so too be honest....it kwik fit after all.....should i be looking for residue etc on pipes and the air con rad...?if it was leaking would it cause it too make a whining noise when driving...? my veccy 1 was silent and tht was a p reg

From what happened to mine, when I had a leak and the system depressurised, the compressor automatically shuts down via the ECU. Its a fail safe I believe. Hopefully there should be some more members about tonight who can maybe shed some more light on this problem for you.

mine isnt working and ive chatted to a few different garages getting prices and they all say the condensor often goes if not normally just seals leaking , but they should be using dye and a ultra violet light to see the gas leaking.

That is exactly what has happened to mine. Condensor has gone apparently, and they want £250 to replace it

Yeah, I think it is (well, that's where he was showing me the UV Dye which had leaked out of the system)

most likely a pipe is split, get a specialist aircon company to check for leaks, kwik gits are twats
